Hi,

I’ve been trying to get the ‘import as layer’ feature to work in v. 1.03 and I always get an error message (’an unknown error has occured while performing the operation. We are sorry for the inconvenience’).

I’ve tried all of the options and have tried tests with very simple objects, but I always get an error. I was just wondering if there’s a bug that prevents the feature from working.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply - My system is a P4 3.2 GHz with 2 GB of RAM and a GeForce 7800 GTX video card.

you have to be sure that both meshes have same vertex number if you use “vertex position (I think that’s the name) option…

Hi, got following problem;

Done object originally in Zbrush, then exported as different levels files with obj.
Imported them as layers in mudbox. Still fine till this point, but
problem arises HERE:
After exporting object at level1 to maya for slight repositioning (It’s easier to do it in maya with Lattices and changing pivots for rotating things than in mudbox)..
After I done repositioing and trying to bring object from maya to mudbox as ‘Import Layer’ i find object shifted far away. (for import options I use by UVs order (by vertex just messes object completely).
Also, i found maya messes the order of vertexes when exporting it back from it…
How can I make maya keep vertex order in tune with mudbox?

(by the way the object I was transfering is consists of 3 combined objects, could this be a problem?)

in video tuts section on your site was one tutorial on using ‘Importing as Layer’ where object ws imported with Vertex order… doesnt work with maya transfers.
Any suggesstions on that matter?

Thanks!

On import (in maya) set Multiple objects to false, check your pivot as well , then try unchecking Delta to Base Layer in mudbox

ahhhh…
Thanks so much for posting that!

a fair amount of anxiety just washed away :D

... now to figure out why my UV’s aren’t importing on the “head” of my model.
any ideas on why the UV’s that I have set in Maya end up in Mudbox as just a single cylindrical projection map?

try recreating level UVs - under the Mesh menu

if not - check if you exported the mesh with the uvs intact - just reimport the mesh
into maya

hope it helps!

well… the recreate level UVs didn’t work.

as for the OBJ mesh that I am importing as a layer…
if I import it into a “new scene” in Maya… the UV’s are correct.

I tried moving some of the verts in Maya, then importing as a layer in MB (by matching verts) just to see if I was doing it right, and the moved verts showed up correctly in MB.

anything I could post here to help clear this problem up?
