Ive added a video on youtube showing how to take even complex geometry of any number of objects and use that as a brush inside Mudbox. Its a very effective way to create complex surface detail quickly from existing models.
Ive had several questions about how to quickly combine and use 2d images for creating normal maps. This video presents a workflow where you can imagine creating a library of geometry based brushes then directly applying to a surface in 3d allowing you to further blend and re-work projected details. The video also explains how to extract your HDR floating point textures and how to create a custom brush to aid your workflow.
In most cases it would take less than 1 min to create a brush but I explain in some detail here :)

I also wanted to point out you can use the same image for a brush Stamp. This way all the jitter settings can be used.

there are some http proxys that are still available but they cant play youtube videos
there is still another way but that will open ports and viruses will attack

let me try to explain from what i see .
1. create a plane in viewport
2.import your geometry that you want to use as a brush ( or create in MB )
3.go to Maps-extract texture maps - new operation and check the box as “displacement map”
4.in “target model” slot select the plane as “use selected” and go to the source model slot then select the highres mesh .
5.define your target map folder from the “displacement map output” and arrange your file extension as TIFF[32 bit Floating Point ,RGBA](*.tif).
6.and then extract
7.create a new scene and create a subdivided mesh
8.load the map that you baked as a stencil and paint .
ps: your brush falloff should be flat to give the whole fidelty of the stencil .
