This eight-week course is designed to provide students a basic familiarity of the Mudbox environment, and will cover sculpting and painting techniques to create a solid asset to bring over to 3DS Max and create a final image with V-Ray rendering. Like all our classes, the curriculum will be delivered using live demos and direct feedback through painting and modeling upon student work. Homework will be given after each class, and students will be expected to show progress for a weekly review. If this course sounds intriguing to you, we are offering an early bird registration special. Tuition for will “Creature Creation using 3DS Max and Mudbox” be only $399 until February 15th. The classes will begin on February 29th. http://www.therydanworkshop.com/program/courseccmm/ If you would like to learn more about Jesse Sandifer before his classes start, and to see samples of his impressive portfolio, check out our exclusive interview with him. We discuss topics like his extensive career, interesting character design and much more. http://www.therydanworkshop.com/extras/jesse-sandifer/ 2012-01-19T12:19:09+01:00 Handy technique for sculpting fabric panels or padding http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/handy-technique-for-sculpting-fabric-panels-or-padding/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/handy-technique-for-sculpting-fabric-panels-or-padding/page-last/#When:14:05:15Z This might be old news, but it was a new discovery for me. When I’m making clothing, gloves etc I often create padding, patches or fabric panels by initially drawing them out on my mesh with paint layers. I then use these paint layers to create displacement maps that I then use with ‘Sculpt with Displacement’. This all works ok, but I sometimes find there’s just not enough geometry in the areas I’m trying to displace. For example I want a fabric panel edge to be a nice sharp line, but I find that it has a bit of ‘stepping’ or ‘jaggyness’ to it. I have found a way to sort his out: I’ll use an example of a racing driver shoe I’ve been working on. Workflow images attached are numbered to correspond with the steps below. 1. I first paint in the panels I want to create on the shoe to depict the layers of leather panels. 2. I now use the exported paint texture .psd to create maps to ‘Sculpt with Displacement’. 3. I’ve displaced all the panels I want. This looks ok from a distance, but up close there are’ jaggies/stepping’ and it’s not as clean as I want to be. There’s basically not enough geo in the areas I’m displacing to be able to get nice clean panel edges. 4. Now if I went in and pinch brushed the geometry around the panel edges all that would happen is the geo would get drawn in, but it also erodes the displacement I’ve created. Not ideal. Now this is the useful bit: 5. Create a new layer called ‘pinch layer’ and then turn off your displacement layers. 6. Turn your paint layers back on. Now use the pinch brush along the edges of your painted panels until you have perfectly neat edges. 7. Now switch your displacement layers back on and you’ll see the geometry has been drawn in towards the panel edges, but it has retained the displacement. Yay! 8. Now as a final polish I create another layer called ‘soften pinch'. 9. Now turn off your pinch layer and smooth along the edges of the displaced geo. 10. Now switch your ‘pinch layer’ back on and you have a should have really nice neat panel edges. No ‘stepping or jaggies'. The final image shows the finished result. Is there an option to turn off this smooth option or do I have to go through the entire model recreating these hard edges and corners? I modeled a Glock and want to put the finer details into it with Mudbox. I'm also very new to Mudbox and if you have any tutorials or tips to help me out create these hard edges and corners I would appreciate it as well. My Internet is down at the moment so my iPhone is about all I've got right now for access and attaching files isn't going to happen. 2012-01-01T07:18:11+01:00 New to Mudbox. Anyway, I have modeled a gun in 3dmax and it's ready for either texturing or smaller details. In which order would I go to complete this? What would you do in my place? I want to learn to use the software. The gun is low poly, don't know if thats important. If you need any more details, please ask because I don't know what you need answered to help me out. 2011-12-26T09:15:50+01:00 Mudbox 2012 - stamp problem http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/mudbox-2012---stamp-problem/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/mudbox-2012---stamp-problem/page-last/#When:09:34:28Z Hi, I have this wierd problem with my imported objects while using stamp. Objects from mudbox is ok (picture 1). But when I import simple object from 3ds max and try use stamp with randomize all parameters, it do this (picture 2). When disable randomize horizontal and vertical position and other randomize options leave on, its ok (picture 3). Problem is done only by horizontal and vertical position, but why??? thanks for any comments 2011-12-23T09:34:28+01:00 How to prepare a mesh in Max2012 to send it to Mudbox 2012? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/how-to-prepare-a-mesh-in-max2012-to-send-it-to-mudbox-2012/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-mudbox/my-tips-tutorials-workflows/how-to-prepare-a-mesh-in-max2012-to-send-it-to-mudbox-2012/page-last/#When:06:16:19Z Hi bro, How to prepare a mesh in Max2012 to send it to Mudbox 2012?
