Hey there guys!

I’m just new to 3D Design and texturing but highly motivated!
My biggest issue is the lack of talent in drawing and colors.

My new project is to make a one hand axe.

Therefore I need some tips to make the axe blade as realistic as possible. I’m good at adding dirt and details - but I need some help with the base color.

My reference is this picture:

medieval_hand_axe.jpg

Can anyone give me some color advices? I would use a bluish grey/black to start with the base color.
But it still just doesn’t look right.

What I’ve done so far - check the attachment. As u can see it doesn’t really look that realistic!

thanks for your tips !

The thing about metals is that they are somewhat reflective. If your model only has a diffuse/colour texture it will look like stone.

To me basically a stone texture+specular/reflection reads as metal.

So try to make your model shiny, give it a specular map and if your game allows it give it some reflection.
