check your uvs , ive found crappy uvs can give all sorts of weird lag in the viewport while sculpting.. like brush lag, looow fps etc

thought it was my drivers there for a while :)

Thank you, hAiu.  That really helped me not to panic but layout nice UVs ;)

And that is crappy in what way actually?

Subdividing takes longer, Brushes get interrupted, camera lags etc..

Oh, you mean the UVs? Well, overlapping edges and such. I had just imported my mesh without any UVs at all for a test sculpt. Until Mudbox has automatic mapping that’s a bad idea ;)

I seem to be having a pretty ok time with interactivity in sculpting mode.
But then when I go into paint mode, I get really bad lag and “stepiness”.
Am I missing something obvious?
I’m even experiencing it on the default sphere when without subdivisions.

Markus

Never mind. Map resolution problem, when I use 4096 map I get the feedback. Well did, until the model went black. Sigh. Figuring that out now.

You mean the default Mudbox sphere, right? That has UVs…

I just created a new scene and in it a sphere, which I used the airbrush on. Works fine. Do you have the latest tablet drivers installed? I can’t really think of a reason why sculpting works, but painting won’t. What about your graphics card, memory and free disk space? Did you specify a reasonable texture size?

I was using the default sphere in MudBox for the testing. I first applied a 2k map. When painting, I got a spotty like performance. I realized that I didn’t have enough resolution on the map. I went with a 4k map, and the object turned black. I downloaded the trail version and installed in on my personal laptop (a Macbook Pro running Win XP 32bit) and I was able to do 4k, get real time feedback. It was sweet. So clearly it’s something with the hardware at work. I don’t think it’s the tablet, cause I get the same problems with the mouse.
