Currently Mud does not support anything above a 4096k for stencil projecting. When I try, it comes in as a giant white overlay on the screen. The problem is even more serious when using the export screen to psd using the 2x option, which puts me well over 4k, as when you re-import it, the image wont project.

With good digital cameras being 20+ mega pixels now, using those high quality photos now have to be cut or cropped to be able to use them in Mud. This limit on resolution quality doesn’t make much sense to me.

maybe your graphics card ran out of mem…
take a look at the bottom right… there is a gpu mem counter…
mudbox feeds all the textures in your gpu mem… a graphics card with 2gig of ram would be fine…
im projecting here 6k textures without a problem…

Actually, good call on that. You made me test this at home machine with a Quadro 5600. I can do up to an 8k map import/export. Anything above that I still get the pure white screen. Though, misleading, the GPU vid mem doesnt even go above 400mb with an 8kmap. This is confusing now because I dont know what is causing this limitation. Is the total mem number just not displaying properly and it is using more memory than it says? Can mud not display above an 8k map in general? My secondary computer which has a really crappy $80 video card with 1 gig of video memory, can do an 8k map. When I try a 10k screen psd, it exports fine, but when I get back to mud it wont load, and the gpu mem went from 42 to 333 and same goes with my quadro card, which is hardly a dent into 1 -1.5 gigs of true video memory.

The computer I was testing this out on originally was a bit dated, so maybe that is why it struggled above a 4k map. Ill have to check the system specs on it again.

Has anyone been able to work with anything above an 8k map projection?
