i’ve had this issue in mudbox since a long time and it didn’t get better at all with 1.04

the strength of the brush seems overall way too much and i have to go to a very very low setting to use it smoothly. it’s often a bit annoying, because when going so low it’s difficult to find a good balance. i feel like it must be some kind of bug, because i can’t imagine that the strength i use often is set at that low input. it should be rather somewhere at near half strength.

also the brush tool “move” is nearly impossible to use because of that problem. because even if at very low strength it moves a very big chunk of my model instead of just of the brush size and strength that should be.

any ideas how to fix it if possible at all?

this is almost certainly a scaling problem.. does it also appear when you use a sphere from mudbox and sculpt on that? if not, then you have to upscale your meshes before importing them into mudbox. in xsi i usually scale them with a factor of 20..annoying task, i know - but what can you do ? :)

hope this helps. cheers!

it’s just so extremely huge in xsi and even in mudbox its pretty huge on the grid.

i wish there was a better sync within mudbox where you can set the unit to a particular program (kinda like realflow does).

ok i just resized it to very very big. but nothing changed at all. annoying.

I got the same trouble only when I’m using a model from 3dsmax.

I agree the first thing that struck me was how strong the brushes are and you really have to take the strength down to 1.0 or below, which doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t use the higher strengths at all, as it gives less than desireable results.

However, there is a kind of pseudo workaround. You could add a new layer, and bring down the layer’s TRANSPARENCY to about 50% or maybe even lower, which will in turn affect the brush strength by proxy allowing you to dial the brush strength up to a more accurate representation?  Did that make sense? :(

Workarounds aside, I think the brush strength does need some tweaking and it would be nice if the strength “range” could be adjusted by the user to give a much more fine tuned range to work in.  Maybe add the ability to use positive or negative multipliers for the intensity settings.

I agree with the brush strength settings being incorrect. Well, they certainly feel incorrect anyway. Having said that in Zbrush i tend to use a setting of around 10-12 which is still in the very low range. Perhaps the problem could be related to our wacom sensitivity? I’ll have to check it out.

to get the feeling of proportions just export the mudbox sphere mesh for eg, and import it in your 3d app… and you’ll seehow big things are ;) I get used to it.. but it is a bit strange I admit…

I think this is one of the first things most people notuce about the app?[ brush size and strength when imported from, exported to different apps]

the size problem really affects modo objects as well.  scratch is unusable.

I think the value multiplier sounds like a good solution. I’ve never had any issues with strength being too high, not with a mouse or the tablet I have now, so I think the multiplier feature would allow everyone to calibrate the app to what works on their system.
