I agree with Bolek, rather one (good) versatile function than a variety of bad ones that will just need further complementing. Curvature map ftw.

(I’d rather see occlusion implemented first though.)

Luckilly, I’ve just started working on a personal project that I will be allowed to show this time around, when I get to texturing I’ll keep steps and post them here if people are up for it.

Delicious.

In Lightwave Displacement maps are different than bump maps. Displacement does just that actually displaces the mesh. Bump adds the illusion of slight texture to the surface of the mesh.

To generate a bump map like that why not edit your mudbox model at say level 5. Get the shape just right. Then go to level 6 and add in all the small detail. Then under export displacement set your lowres mesh to be the level 5 and the hires to be level 6. It should generate a bump map? You might have to play with the search distance. I find that I have to have 2 different search distances for both normals and displacement map creation.

can some one write a quick tutorial on a 3dsmax workflow?

low poly model into mudbox.
sculpt and generate disp and norm maps.
set up 3dsmax with lowpoly model with displacement, normal and bump.
set up ambiant occlusion.
render passes as well as bake the ambiant occlusion.

that in mental ray and brazil. :D you dont even have to explain anything - just do point by point of what steps to take. :)
