1)When deleting a layer the base layer becomes the active one. I would rather
see the layer direct under the deleted layer becoming the active one for a better workflow.
Too often I create new layers just above the base layer while I wanted a new layer at the place of the just deleted layer.

Good suggestion, and to expand on the idea, it would be really nice to be able to lock the base layer to prevent actual sculpting on it. I have inadvertantly done this and found it impossible to erase the edits to the base level at higher subdivisions.
