OK

This is my suggestion. Considering Vista and the run for Windows 7. More and more people are switching to Linux.

The big boys have done the switch from Irix to Linux a long time ago.

So can you make a version for Linux… thanks

I wonder if Mud can run under Wine ?

I hate linux.  But wouldn’t be bad to be able to use it if I happened to go to an all Linux house.

I would love to be able to run 100% on my FreeBSD box but there are always a few programs that won’t run on it. I’m not a fanboy of any OS but I would like to use a linux type distro simply for security reasons. But to be honest, I doubt there is enough demand to warrant Autodesk releasing such a version. They need to spend all their resources on fixing the existing bugs before they even consider shipping out more copies. Haha.

Yes it can. At least the 30 day trial can.
However, obviously performance is hit, and tablet pressure does not work. If you want to sculpt on linux, Zbrush on wine runs incredibly well.
Mudbox has been made cross platform and will be relesed for OSX so obviously, the potential for a Linux version is there.
Don’t despair. :)

Id love a Linux version. I hate between Rock(Win) and Hard Place(Mac). This is really pathetic considering Maya and XSI both run on Linux now. There are a ton of shops that would love to be an all Linux pipeline and not have to deal with Microsoft and Apple nonsense.  Maya can actually run surprisingly well in a cheap Linux box without HW acceleration. I think that with the insecurity and big brother issues with Windows 7 and the high price and closed systems of Apple, Linux is an obvious choice to use. Unfortunately no one else has taken the plunge to port to Linux recently.
I am curious about WINE and Zbrush myself.

I currently have ZBrush on my linux box, and I must say that it runs great...once you get things running. There are a few issues that must be addressed like the ‘Win Tabs’ pop up that pops up once the program is started up, allocating permissions to the wine directories that you want to read/write to, and a few others that are small enough not to even notice. I think that ZB runs faster on wine than on Vista considering the fact that I dislike the Windows OS (personal preference). I know that this is a MudBox forum, but if anyone wants to give ZB&Linux a shot should search the ZB forums for how to install it. All-in-all, any port to linux would be greatly appreciated.

I contacted an Autodesk sales person via the website regarding this (stated plainly, if Mudbox had a linux version, I would purchase it today), that was a while ago (few weeks) I’m still waiting for a response other than the automated email that gets sent out

I tried to run the 30 day trial under wine and it did NOT work, I wonder why?
