I know this is a Mudbox forum, but I’ve just seen the lastest vid of the new ZBrush update and I must admit I am impressed (its free too for all registered Windows users). We need some of those features in the next Mudbox, so come on Autodesk what are you waiting for!

A very small and trivial convenience feature, a little transient warning to show on the screen when you are about to sculpt on the base mesh instead of a layer. I dont know how many times I have sculpted on the base instead of a sculpt layer, even up to an hour before realising my error. And Im usually pretty careful so it must also happen to other people. Very annoying, losing time and energy redoing mistakes like this. Happens especially if I have reopened a scene or reselected an object in a scene. Nice if mudbox remembered which layer you are on between saved files. You cant lock the base mesh and still sculpt on a layer, perhaps even better if sculpting was confined to layers only. The problem with sculpting the base mesh is that you cant delete or recover wanted/unwanted sculpting from it not even with an opacity slider like you can with layers. I suppose you could export it and reimport as a layer to a previous save or bake a map but havent tried that.

For me if Autodesk can go for another acquisition this is the wishlist
so that the active and powerful team of Z-brush will take care of the sculpting softwares.
go Autodesk go man.

purchase any powerful application so that nothing left in cg world for competition.

if this is the way you feel don’t use autodesk products.

my only wish is for posing tools, and performance boost with each version

A better customization for dual displays would be great. for example I want all my palettes and tabs in display 2 while display 1 is dedicated to full screen work space.

Have faith.  I’m sure the next release of Mudbox will bring features that some of you want.

What I currently miss:

- Non Uniform Transformation of Stencils like in Photoshop/Bodypaint would be very, very cool!!!

- Blur Paint Brush

- (Trans)Pose Tool like ZBrush

- UV Set Manager: You can add layers for each uv set or you have the ability to use multisub materials. It’s pretty time consuming to replace the set textures manually. With a manager you also could use layers with different sizes quickly.

- Bake Highres AO to you Lowpoly: It’s pretty time consuming, too, that you always have to apply a displacement map to your Lowpoly, to get an AO map.

- Blur Paint Brush
Wouldn’t the smudge tool, be close ?
Pose Tool, would be nice, I suppose :)

No idont think so Autodesk will bring transpose in mudbox.

Because it would be copy/past of Z-brush and may effect Maya (who would like to go for rigging).
but may be i am wrong.

-posing tools
-uv tools
-ability to clone an object (with it’s layers/topology)
-keyboard shortcuts for switching to front, back, side and top views like in max.

-it would be a cool feature to be able to toggle a posed character with a T-posed character for symetrical sculpting, this way you could mirror sculpt details on a T-posed creature and have it translate corectly to the posed one. (If you can already do this please let me know).
