| Mudbox needs to add 3DConnexion support
|
|
|
I’m absolutely loving Mudbox 2009 except for one (blaring) oversight… no 3DConnexion support. If there is something I could do to convince Autodesk to work with 3DConnexion and get support for Mudbox 2009, I would do it. I’m trying things like this (posting in forums on both this site and 3DConnexion’s site. There have been others as well who have wanted this.
See… here’s the thing. Before I had a 3DConnexion (Space Navigator), I was alright with the way you control the camera. Sometimes it was clunky and a bit annoying, but I did what I had to do. Now I that I have a 3DConnexion, I don’t want to work in a 3d environment where I can’t use my Space Navigator. It literally has become an essential part of my work flow. In fact, I often find myself trying to grab my Space Navigator while I’m working in Mudbox out of habit of seeing a 3D model I’m working on and expecting it to rotate when I move it. Each time I am sorely disappointed as I release the Space Navigator and reach for that ALT key.
I have read on many sites that due to the fact that ZBrush does not have 3DConnexion support is opening up some of it’s users’ eyes to Mudbox. I have read many posts from artists saying that if Mudbox got 3DConnexion support, they would happily make the switch from ZBrush to Mudbox. I can say this much, if ZBrush gets 3DConnexion support first, I’ll be switching to using that instead of Mudbox even though I prefer Mudbox.
So, please… PLEASE add support for 3DConnexion devices for Mudbox. If there is anything I can do to help you accomplish that, please let me know.

Can’t agree any more.
I made a similar post before:

Figured I would *bump* this thread and say that Mudbox 2009 would be insanely awesome if some level of support was given to integrating the plugin to support 3D Space Navigator devices. Its a real shame we don’t have this already considering the fact that these things like they should go hand in hand with Mudbox (one hand a Space Navigator the other a Wacom Brush).

I hear MB developers saying that there is not enough demand? How do you know that did you take a vote? you should at least count me as two people because I really really want connexion support! Mudbox is the perfect app to use that kind of control and yet its the only app that does not use it! Come on guys!! I dont expect support in SP3 but how about for MB2010? PLEASE? Its not a heavy feature to develop for is it?

Count me in as two as well. 3D Connexion device support would be super fantastic feature

Add me too. Space navigator capability will be great!

I think 3DConnexion Support is a no brainier. I seriously cannot think of an application that would benefit more from this, then high resolution digital sculpting. Awkward, jerky, snapping camera movements, would be replaced with fluids movements, rotating around to every conceivable angle, sculpting with ease, being able to get the camera exactly where you want it.

It’s a minor luxury though, an indulgence, not a serious feature request, it doesn’t make any tangible difference to sculpting. I can already get the camera to go where I want it, and don’t feel in any way restricted. You need to set the camera to use trackball rather than standard, you get much more rotational control that way.
I’m not surprised the devs haven’t jumped on this as a ‘must have’ feature.
IF people want it they may as well stick it in though. I suppose it depends on how much development time it would waste.

"IF people want it they may as well stick it in though. I suppose it depends on how much development time it would waste.”
Yeah your right, I said it was a no-brainier to put it in, but didn’t really say how important I rate this feature. I would rather see development time be put into other tools, but if there is already an impressive list of other improvements in Mudbox 2010, and it isn’t a massively time consuming task then I would like to see Autodesk add this feature. At least in this case Autodesk can claim to do one thing before Pixologic does it.
