normal map UV problems

hi,
im new to mudbox and the whole UV mapping thing. im having problems with extracting normal maps and displacement maps.

i think it may be the way i have laided out my UV’s so i have attached images of my UV’s laided out in 3ds max.
do you have any advice in laying out UVs?

also i cant seem to find a preset for 3dsmax in the baker theres only one for Maya

thanks for your help
ifind mudbox alot easier to use then zbrush

i also have the same problem with heavy meshes ...

This one might help
In Unwrap modifier press Pack UV’s… this should bring all your UV mesh into the UV layout. That’s mainly the result you get when a part of your UV map overlaps .
Also you have a big waste of space there.
