I’m using Roadkill to mapping for a while and I’m pretty satisfy, and it’s free :)

I second madshader’s sentiment about mudbox focusing on sculpting. I would be disappointed if I saw skymatter devoting dev time to adding UV features instead of working on a mac port. I do my UV mapping in Blender and things have been going pretty smoothly for me.

Looks like they are going to add painting in version 2.0 due out later this year :) . I hope they have a great set of UV tools to go with that, it should be as good as UV Layout. Or a SDK so at least Phil can create a plugin to link Mudbox<--->UV Layout.

:P i do. Actually i haven’t bought UV layout yet. I’ll have to wait until the end of the year for that.

Gotta have UVs when you dealing with painting , even ZBrush has it. ;)

I second oglu’s sentiment. UV is not difficult, it’s just something we have to do.

Man, do I ever get excited hearing about the painting engine and the Linux port :D. Forget UV tools, I want 3D sculpting and painting on Linux!

Does this mean, they are only focusing on painting/texturing tools? nah i doubt this..im sure they are adding alot of sculpting enchancements.

At the same time, there is a lot we had planned from the beginning for Mudbox that we just haven’t gotten to yet. If you look at all the different aspects involved in creating 3D assets - we’re interested in all of that. We’ll be able to share more about this later in the year.

Count me in for automatic unwrapping. Something like GUV tiles in zBrush would be great, so you can start sculpting after one mouse click. Having sophisticated tools to actually layout nice and clean UVs is also highly desirable.
