Greetings all :)

I was wondering if there will become a plugin available to export your models into a Sculpture texture for the game Second Life.

Let me explain, Second Life as many may allready know is an online life simulator where you have the possibility to create an sell your own stuff.
Since a few they updated their build engine with socalled Sculpture Prims allowing you to upload full 3D models converted into a Rainbow colored bmp file.

Would be nice to have such a plugin for Mudbox… See in SL all you make is out of seperate prims you edit and link together into one object. So with the ability to convert your 3D models into a Rainbow texture and upload as Sculpty you can safe up alot of prims for your builds.

Considering the fact that in this game Prims are limited to the ammount of sq. meters land you own (bigger land higher prim limit) wich can cost quite alot of cash to maintain…

I think it would be really nice if such a plugin would come in near future.

Could smebody please be so kind to give me some info on this? thnx in advance :)

PS.

If you wish to checkout the game, Click the name below to link to the Mainsite where you can create a free account and download the game.

Second Life

Have fun, hope somebody can give me some info soon :)

Are you talking about normal maps here, or is this some fuckwit advert for a pathetic game for losers?

I think your talking about a world space normal map… and for that, there is already an exporter in mudbox.

If that is not what you are talking about then, it is obvious you don’t understand what mudbox is used for.  I would look into finding the plugin you need for a 3d package like max or or xsi or lightwave… these programs are where you would pool all your assets together to make a complete character, usually for rendering, but also this is the point from witch game exports would take place… You would have to find whatever exporter you need from the people that make second life.
Mudbox would never include an exporter like this because; first of all mudbox is not used to create complete assets it is used to do sculpting and thats it.  Secondly whatever your talking about is not a used or demanded format in any way and you are probably the first person I have ever heard even mention second life on this forum, if there was an exporter in mb for second life then why not for every other obscure game out there.  Your request seems as out of place as this request:  “I think it would be cool if mudbox would add animation ability.”

On the upside I am accually a little exited about second life for other reasons, If anyone cares about AI there is a company out there called Novamente, that is developing an artificial general intelligence or AGI.  They have created an entity that is a parrot, and will be interacting with people and learning The idea would be that he started out quite dumb, but as he interacts with hundreds of thousands of users all over the globe, he will learn and evolve… Pretty neat!
I just wish the graphics in second life didn’t look like crap.
