If we had an option to select sets of faces according to thier uDim tile number, it would allow for easy isolation via hiding/unhiding or masking sections of mesh. (my hopes would be some sort of graphic interface to toggle selection of tiles on and off)

At the moment I do it by marquee or paint select which seems fine, but getting in and around tight areas such as the interior/exterior of mouths I’m forced to paint select, where this can become a bit tedious on a very dense mesh.

My guess is a workflow speed increase with this addition.

Great job with 1.0.4. It’s a breeze to use!

That’s a nice idea Roja… I’m also wondering if a simple UV window where we could do simple operations such move vertices around or lasso select polygons wouldn’t be interesting. That could help creating selection sets and clean some overlapping polys we might have forgotten while doing UVs.

When using Zbrush, I don’t count how many times I had to reload the base mesh in the modeler, fix possible UV problems, save and re import back into Zbrush… not especially a cool way to work if you ask me :)

Jacques.

Good suggestion.  We’ve thought about tile selection tools before and have a couple ideas.  In the meantime, you may be able to achieve some of your goals by importing selection sets from Maya, which Mudbox supports (not ideal for this case, but just throwing it out there).

Actually that’s a good workaround for now. I forgot sets were supported, and that will come in handy for that mouth example. Thanks for the tip!

Edit: Hey Jacques - I agree about the uv window - it would be something cool. That zbrush story is funny, I haven’t used it that much. I couldn’t figure it out :)

Please excuse the dumb question but how does Mudbox support Maya selection sets? I am using OBJ to get back and forth from MB to Maya. There is an option in the OBJ export options called “point groups”. Is that the selection sets?? That has been off when I’ve been exporting an OBJ out of Maya.  Do these sets show up in the Object list in MB?  Thanks -tom

I believe you’d want to use ‘Groups’ instead of ‘Point Groups’ as your .obj export option. The sets show up in the object list in Mudbox. Very handy :)
