Hey all.

So SketchBook Pro doesn’t support Wacom pen rotation? Any plans for future support?

Definitely won’t be buying the software if it doesn’t (and won’t in the future).

Otherwise, it does look like it could be the premier sketching app Autodesk purports it to be. But without support for rotation ... I guess I’ll have to go with a Corel product. That kind of thing is important to traditional-media artists like myself.

Would appreciate confirmation so I can make a confident purchase decision!

Thanks.

Hey AreDub3D…

SketchBook Pro does not currently support pen rotation or pen tilt, so if this is a show stopper for you, don’t buy.

With that said, we are trying to get a better understanding supporting this and other pen features…

Regular Wacom pens support pressure sensitivity and tilt.  The Art Pen adds rotation.

Rotation support would provide dynamic rotation on brush stamps… so would not have any affect on many of the preset SBP brushes.  However, with the new custom texture brushes, this could be more useful… and also for any chisel type brushes.

Tilt is another thing.  It is selectively supported in other apps.  When you ask about pen rotation, do you mean that feature exlusively or how it relates to tilt behaviors in brushes too?

I know where you stand on the topic AreDub, but I guess my general question to ‘community at large’ is, what is the expectations of this type of capability with respect to SBP.  Obviously, people without an Art Pen or using a Tablet PC probably don’t care or perhaps are more intersted in tilt behaviors.

I would like to see the rotation supported to be able to get the best use of the Copic marker brushes. I find the current way the brushes behave a little too unreal. This would be a huge step forward for the software. And just so you know I’m not just a casual doodler, here are a couple of the things I’ve done with SketchbookPro.

Hi CheungC,
Well, I’ve only briefly played around with the trial version, so I just assumed SBP supported tilt! After all it’s been available on Wacom tablets since way back and so many programs do support it. Tilt is great for shading with pencil and other similar media. I would also think it would pretty much be a necessity with any airbrush tool.

Ever since I bought my 6D Art Pen (and apps have supported it) I’ve really enjoyed the rotation feature. It makes markers, calligraphic and other “flat” brushes so much more useful and user friendly. Having to manually rotate SBP’s marker tip with the slider is inefficient and interrupts the creative process. This is what led me to post my question.

On the other hand, there’s a lot I like about SBP - especially the space-efficient UI, which could help me get the most out of my little 12” Cintiq. Without a doubt, SBP’s interface is superior to Corel SketchPad’s: The Lagoon keeps everything in one [small] area, the ruler and elliptical guides are very handy and intuitive to use, while the Brush-resizer and Zoom/Rotate/Move tool make quick adjustments actually quick.

One other worthy addition to SBP would be the option to keep pages in a sketchbook-type file, rather than in separate files, and with the ability to flip through the pages. Corel’s SketchPad has this feqature as you probably know.

Thanks for your reply - I’m looking forward to hearing how you plan to improve SBP.

Editing to add one last question: Is there a 64-bit version?

Editing to add one last question: Is there a 64-bit version?

Last release, we added the custom textures to the brushes, so we are interested in continuing to improve the brush descriptions.  All the feedback we’ve received about pen support here and elsewhere has been really valuable and very relevant.

As for the last question… we do not currently have a native 64-bit version, though we test and qualify on that hardware.

c.

Any word on a new update? Would like to see Pen rotation and fixes for some of the other issues users have been having.

I just bought Sketchbook Pro and the Art Pen and was shocked that rotation didn’t work. The feature was so obvious to me. Please make it happen :)
It makes so much sense to use it with the Copic style brushes. And you already have manual rotation. Shouldn’t be a big thing, right?
I love Sketchbook. Please don’t make me use Corel…
