| Not Recognizing Pen Pressure
|

|
I had the trial of Sketchbook Pro 2009 RC1 and everything seemed to work great. I’m now running the 2010 trial and I’ve lost all pen functionality with my Intuos3 tablet. It recognized the pen, but no pressure, eraser, tilt, etc. I turned off the Vista Tablet Input Services and I get all of the functionality back - but my cursor shows up as ‘Mouse’ mode but the actual drawing is in ‘Pen’ mode on the Sketchbook canvas. At first I thought it was just offset for some reason but now I see that its only functioning in ‘Pen’ mode (even though the cursor feedback is showing ‘Mouse’ mode).
Any ideas? This is really frustrating - was planning on purchasing the new version ( I love this software ) but if I can’t get the software to recognize the Wacom tablet correctly, it just won’t do.
I’ve upgraded to the latest tablet drivers from Wacom as well. Thanks for the help!

hi there:
could you please try the following:
1) In the tablet control panel, double check to see if it is detecting pressure (under the “TipFeel” panel, “Current Pressure").
2) In SBP, open the menu Edit > Stylus Responsiveness. Check the slider setting. Set it to the max value (full right)
Also, could you please list your hardware/software specs, including version numbers, specially for the Wacom driver you are using.
Thanks,

I checked for pressure sensitivity and it checks out whether in pen or mouse mode.
Style responsiveness is set as far right as it goes.
My Wacom driver version is: 6.0.1-6
The interesting thing is, I got the cursor to follow correctly in mouse mode by clearing the Wacom preference file but it still does not respond to pressure, eraser, tilt, etc. I even set up a special profile in the Wacom Tablet Properties for Sketchbook Pro. I have no problems with Corel Painter Essentials or Art Rage 2.5 so I think its something to do with how its interacting with Sketchbook Pro.
I’m running Windows Vista x64 SP1, Phenom Quadcore 2.20, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT 1GB Ram, Tons of HDD space..., Wacom Intuos 3
Thanks again for your help!

Did you get driver 6.0.1-3 from the Wacom website? Maybe I’ll give that whirl - you’re running Sketchbook Pro 2010 right?

Reinstalled an earlier driver and there’s no change. I reinstalled 2009 and its giving me the same behavior. Works great when pen is set to ‘pen mode’ but loses all added functionality when in ‘mouse mode’. This is only true for the Sketchbook Pro programs, all others work fine. I am absolutely stumped.

1) The latest Wacom driver is 6.1.0-6. Please try that first.
2) Please remove the SBP preferences and try again.

I’ve already tried those options previous to trying an older driver. I still don’t get pressure sensitivity in mouse mode.

Can anyone confirm that Sketchbook Pro picks up pressure sensitivity, eraser, etc with the pen set to ‘mouse mode’ ? I’m fearing that Sketchbook Pro just doesn’t acknowledge the pen’s pressure when its in ‘mouse mode’
Thanks

I guess I read too fast. I didn’t pay attention to the “Mouse” mode mention.
SBP doesn’t support “Mouse” mode on XP or Vista. Mac OS X is fine.
On Vista, there is a trick to bring back pressure sensitivity, by disabling in the Device Manager control panel, under “human interface devices” the “Wacom virtual HID driver” BUT, there will be an offset between the cursor and the stroke.

Yeah, thats exactly the behavior I’ve been noticing. Thank you for your quick responses - I really appreciate it. At least I know that everything is working as it should. I’m a little disappointed since Corel’s software is responsive to both pen and mouse modes, but I’m going to get a copy of SBP 2010 anyway - I love the interface that much. I’ll just have to teach myself to draw in pen mode more often.
Any idea if the development team plans to make SBP work in both pen and mouse mode on XP / Vista in the future?
Thanks again!
