Hello,
I have a little problem with my my SBP 2010, it runs as if I’m forcing it onto a windows 3.1 machine.  When I start the program I can literally sit and watch as the programs loads from the bottom of my screen, sliding up to the top.  Every pen stroke from my table takes a few seconds to register and I can’t move any of the toolbars or access the menus without waiting a few seconds for anything to be responsive.  Now here’s the weird part: 2009 works just fine, so does photoshop.  SBP 2010 even worked for months without showing any sign of slowness.  Now, I haven’t touched it in probably two months but today I open it up and it feels slower than a drunk snail.  I have tried rebooting, reinstalling and reinstalling with rebooting, I turned off my firewall and went through my task manager to close down most of the system hogging processes and still no effect.

I’m running this on Windows XP on a Lenovo T60p with 3 gigs of ram, an ATI FireGL 5250 and a centrino core 2 duo processor(can’t remember Ghz off the top of my head).  Anybody have an idea as to what’s happening? tips? pointers? words of comfort? Thanks.

Hey Gillmr,

Perhaps your “rotate canvas” option is selected. Go to Edit/Preferences, in the General tab make sure “Enable Rotate Canvas” is deselected. That’s all I can suggest. Other people (me included) experienced the same problem and this solved it.

Best of luck!

nope, I’ve already tried that and it has no effect but thanks.
Are there any programs known to interfere specifically with SBP 2010?

Have you tried deleting the prefs? Sometimes they get corrupted and could cause similar problems/crashes.
If this doesn’t work, please let us know the version numbers for:
- wacom driver
- graphics card driver

Thanks,

Make sure SBP is not running and go to the following location (Win XP):
C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Autodesk\SketchBook Pro\4.0

Rename this folder and restart SBP.
A new fresh Preferences folder will be created and any potential problems caused by corrupted prefs should be gone.

I renamed the file and there’s no change in the responsiveness.  I just downloaded the new Wacom Intuos3 driver to see if it would have any effect, nothing.  I still have the same lag with just a normal mouse if that means anything.  Anyways, here are the driver numbers you requested:
Graphics driver version#: 8.533.3.1-081110a-075168C-Lenovo
(for ATI Radeon FireGL V5250)
Tablet driver version#: 6.1.2-4(RC)
(Intuos 3 tablet, model# PTZ-631W)
Thanks for all the help, is there anything else I should do while you guys check this out?

Hi Gillmr,

We’ve had similar reports on other Lenovo laptops (T61p and w500). Not all are Sketchbook specific, but they do point to potential graphics driver issue.  In those cases, other applications appear to work fine, but Sketchbook will have very poor performance.  In at least one case, after upgrading their Nvidia driver, the problem disappeared.

I’ve tried to reproduce your problem on our T61p without success.  We are using an Nvidia Quadro card and not an ATI card.

You may wish to another driver if you have one available.

Hi,

I had a similar prob a few weeks ago - pen lag. After checking settings and a week of frustration, I checked my display settings (again) and noticed the windows theme ‘Aero’ was not running. I set ‘Windows Aero’ as my theme and hay presto all was well again - very wierd! The pen lag was gone and I could use rotate canvas again.
Now you say you have XP. I’m running a Lenovo W700 (with digitizer) with vista so not sure if aero comes with XP.
Hope this might shed some light on your prob and good look.

BBB.

Well, for some reason unknown to me, it has started working again.  I uninstalled a lot of programs that had been clogging up my harddrive space, perhaps one was interfering in the background?  I also got a Windows update so who knows.  But thanks for giving me your attention and testing everything out for me.  You guys are the best.
