Nice stuff up here these days. Too bad this board isn’t more active - I think there are just too many places to share your SBP work!

Here’s a sketch I did last week as prep for a Sketchbook Pro demo I was doing for some professors at a local school.  Not my design, it’s an old-school land speed record car from the ‘20s.

I didn’t post this three times, the system did. In fact, I got an error that the server was busy and closed the window.

Here is an example how I use Sketchbook Pro as an Architect in the conceptual design phase. My clients (in China) expect a concept idea within a view days. I had to find a solution to draw quickly and find a way to illustrate the drawing in a way that government, laymen, investors and buyers can understand the plan. In the old days I used trace-paper, ink and copic markers. I needed a work environment with scanner and printer. I replaced all this with Sketchbook Pro and the Cintiq 21UX as drawing device. The custom brushes are great for landscaping and for repeating items such as buildings. I also use the custom brushes to do dash lines for analysis diagrams. It’s faster and easier than in Indesign. For me Sketchbook Pro is the perfect tool. I wonder if there are other people in the field of Architecture here.

This is really great to see NilsM. I’ve been advocating architectural use of Sketchbook Pro for years at places like Autodesk University, but I had yet to come across an architect who had actually broken with tradition and gone digital. I think this would be an invaluable tool for architects and would love to see you teach a class at AU about it!

Another Architectural concept drawing for an “Eco Technology Center” in China. Working time ca 12 hours.

(Step 1)
Normally I get a cadastral map as PDF from the client. I adjust the drawing to A3.
(Step2)
I try to find the satellite picture of the site and zoom until it fits with the given map.
(Step3)
Rough concept sketch with Sketchbook Pro on the Cintiq 21UX
(Step4)
More detailed handsketch with “red pencil”
(Step5)
Final “Ink drawing” Using custom stamps for repeating items
(Step6)
Applying colors layer by layer starting with the lowest (custom brush grass) ending with details such as trees (stamp) and other landscape details.
(Step7a)
Adding shadow to trees and buildings by hand (for drawings with small scale)
(Step7b)
Opening the drawing in Photoshop to generate drop-shadow for the tree layer and building filling layer (For large scale drawings with lots of small buildings)
