Hi,
I downloaded the latest version of Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 2011 (5.1) this morning, and ran the install. However, when I check the ‘about’ details of the program, it shows the version as 5.0. Is it supposed to be like that?
Thanks,
John

Interesting. Just found out about this update.
So the proper procedure is to uninstall SBP 2011 first, then install the “update”? We can’t just install the update over the previous install?

OK, I’ve uninstalled the old version, and installed the new. That seems to do the trick. A tad bit archaic, but hopefully Autodesk will make it less arduous in future. For now, check the paraffin level, crank the lever and hope for the best.

OK, I’ll uninstall the old version. If it doesn’t work, you’ll hear from my lawyers!
:-P
Thanks for the coffee…

Joe, for you, the world!
Just checked your site. Are all those illustrations done with Sketchbook Pro? They are simply FANTASTIC, my friend. Wish I could draw like that.
Do you make use of a Cintiq? Did you study art somewhere? Do you make use of reference materials?
Sorry for all the questions, but I’m burning to grow in my illustration skills, and don’t really know how.
Great work man!

Thanks John, you’re a gent and a man of good taste. ;-)
I start almost all my drawings in SBPro but often move to Painter. Most of those in my website are traditional watercolour but the digital work is increasing fast.

Does anyone have the whatnots or a link to what this update entails, or are we suppose to magically guess through our ESP (like in the case of the update)?

There is a changelog, but I can’t seem to find it now. I think it may have popped up right after I installed the latest version.

Strange! Most softwares allow you to read the change log before installing the update. :) Anyway, I’ve installed 5.1 and it seems to be working fine; I guess at this point I can only speculate on what was changed.

The most obvious change is the Brush Properties Puck. Now it’s drag left/right for size and up/down for opacity.

I can’t say that I like this change—I keep finding that as I change the size of my brush, the opacity is also changing. You need a precise lateral motion to isolate the size feature without lowering the opacity. Normally I create my brushes a specific way that I don’t want the opacity to be adjusted so easily.
Any chance we could option to have that opacity on-the-fly feature locked off, if we prefer not to use it?
