Tried the free version now since yesterday, and I really like it, its so smooth, the screen size is the only thing still lets you know that its on a mobile you are working on, Great work.
As I said I haven’t used the Full version just yet, but I considering getting it a bit later today, to be able to use more layers and larger image size.
I have several features that I would like to see in future releases and updates, and I don’t think they are in the full version and I apologize if they are.
Move Layer
- Moving a entire layer, inkludes rotating and stretching?
Fine Lines
- a mode similar to mirroring
This lets you do nice lines like it was vector without editing, the feature fine tunes your “moves” so they are more straight and “clean”, for final fine tuning.
Opacity
- While sketching I consider this to be most useful and I would use this rather than grey while beginning sketching. Find it more useful when you draw several lines until you get a pleasing result, instead of, draw, undo, draw.
OverSketch/paint
- useful for shading, When you have added full color and are about to shade or change color like stripes and details. Using this mode let you paint freely but you only can paint in areas where they layer is already using.
Change Color Picker.
- I would like to see a double tap function or two fingers to do this, like double tap the top, hold and drag to get to your color. Cause i miss the ability to make dots rather than have to nudge. I don’t know the reason why you didn’t make it possible to make a dot, But its on my wish list that you change that if you find it to be a good solution.
Hope you understand what I’m trying to say here, and thanks for a awesome application.
Thanks for reading.

after getting the full version Im somewhat disappointed that 3g it only have 3 layers like the free version, I understand it is a performance issue but its really makes things harder.

another thing, upper right corner, which brings you back to defualt position, how about if you double tap again you go back to where you were?

Thanks for the suggestions, TruB.
I had a 3G too… so I know what you are talking about. There isn’t much we can do with respect to further optimizing for your phone was canvases, brush sizes, and layers benefit from and require juice.
If you drop down the opacity in the brush editor, does this not give you the desired effect? I have one of my pencils set at Min .10 and Max .35, for exactly the reason you described. Is this what you meant or was it something else?
Is the overpaint you describe like ‘preserve transparency’ in Photoshop or SketchBook Pro? Pixels can only draw over areas that already have pixels, right?
I understand the other suggestions. No promises, but a few of these are areas that we are planning on looking into for future updates.
I’ll wait to hear back on you about the opacity and overpaint.

Thanks for you reply
yes the brush editor do what I hoped for, just didnt know about it when I posted earlier.
preserve transparency sounds about right, I havent used that in photoshop since I didnt know it existed, I would use ctrl+layer (windows) to just select the area.
I would suggest adding that you can import layers from other work youve done and exporting selected layers aswell to use later, but you can export them as images and importing the same way so I guess their is no need. may be faster though.
keep up the good work
btw, just had a crash, used 3 layers, was fining tuning and shading the bottom layer and randomly stroke tones of shades as the screen went blank, I got back to the homescreen and went into the app and all was gone :/
autosave possible?

I am a fine artist/painter. I don’t generally do digital work. But I own an iPod touch and I bought the SketchBook Mobile application a few days ago. I love it! I’m not acquainted with software to help me sketch or draw so I will be spending quite a bit of time trying to figure it all out. By the time I get to the point where I know my way around it, I hope the bugs the author of this thread has suggested have already been updated (I think they’re great suggestions). But, as for feedback, this is a great app! And I also bought the SketchBook Pro 2010 for my Macbook Pro (along with a small tablet to play around with). It’s amazing! Whoever thought I could draw on my laptop and it be so similar to drawing in my sketchbook?!
Thanks for a great app and a great product!

Thanks for the post, babystace. It is great to welcome a new user for both SketchBook Mobile and Pro!
Hope to see some of your artwork either here or on the Flickr site sometime: http://www.flickr.com/groups/sketchbookmobile/pool/

TruB, Great suggestion re: Color Picker. I have a problem when I am in offset mode. The color Picker appears like unwanted magic. Also, I would like to decide which direction for the offset so I can turn the “Canvas” in any direction and have the offset above my finger.
Too much fun!!!

Was working on one of my best peices so far and I got this.
Good thing I do take screens regurly and minus the hair that I was just playing around with and Im back where I was, Used the recent update that just came a few days ago never seen this error before in Sketchbook mobile, I did use it several time after the update before I got this problem though.
nice update btw, thanks for supporting your product.

Some other suggestions:
- a faster way to change the opacity would be nice, because the brush editor is slow
- a option to disable the antialising of the screen/canvas if you zoom in

I had been using the Brushes application for some time and although I enjoyed playing with that application, I was happily surprised when I heard about SketchBook Mobile. I immediately downloaded the trial version and after a few minutes of playing around decided that it was definitely worth purchasing the full version. I have a 90 minute commute to/from work every day so you can imagine what I’ve been doing on the train these days!…
I also wish that I could get more than three layers to play with but I understand that you have to work within the limitations of the device.
As someone else suggested, it would be good if I could import layers from another drawing and scale/position them.
It would be good also if there was a more convenient way to browse through the pictures in the Gallery in full size (something like a browse mode). This would allow me to save different versions of a drawing and switch back and forth to compare them. The Brushes application that I mentioned earlier has such a feature, and I found it really useful.
Anyway, just like SketchBook Pro is my favorite desktop application, SketchBook Mobile has become my favorite iPhone app and I cannot find suitable words to express how great I think it is. Instead, let me show you some of the things that I’ve been doing with it.
Thank you,
Eric
