Hi! New to SketchBook Pro. Using with iPad :)
Having problems copying files off the iPad via iTunes File Sharing. I get an error that the filename is too long or has incorrect characters.
(drag-dropping to my Mac desktop running 10.6.3). The filenames are date/timestamps.

Thanks for any pointers!! :)
Oh, great app, BTW ;)

Ron

Hiya,

I’m an iPad developer, solving the same file syncing problem you’ve been having for my own software.  I haven’t used SketchBook Pro, but hopefully I can help.

Try changing the name of the documents you’re trying to save so that they don’t have any colons or commas (which are typically in a timestamp).  Then iTunes should stop complaining about invalid characters.

Genius, deciphermedia! Thank you! That did the trick. (let’s hope Autodesk developers are reading this ;)
I should have recognized UNIX’s aversion to the colon character in a filename…
So.. if you *aren’t* making an iPad app whose purpose is to just copy (sync) files onto the iPad… hmmmm… :)

Haha :) I’m really glad it worked!

I worked on an audio recording app for voice notes for the iPad.  We had the idea of naming the recordings by the date stamp by default also… triggering the same problem!  I was searching for postings about the error since I figured out what the problem was, and was looking for the best wording for our FAQ :)

I too have a problem with file sharing, I am dropping files in and they sync fine, at least no errors are reported, but I can’t figure out how to access them from in SBP (iPad). I am trying to file share PSD files, as well as .png files with transparent backgrounds.

How do you access or open these files?  I would assume they would show in the gallery, but nothing is there.

Also, I have tried putting PNG files into the iPhoto library I sync with in order to bring them in to SBP as seperate layers, but they are not coming properly, looks like the file is corrupt (even though it brings it in, its all jarbled).

Same problem here.

I can’t share between the iPad version and SBP on OSX. No apparent “error” (aside from iTunes complaining about the filename when trying to drag into OSX), and no visible way to load the synced files (tried TIFF and PNG from SBP on OSX) into the iPad app.

I hope it’s a known issue and will be fixed with an update.

Thanks for your feedback and be assured that it is a known problem.
There is going to be an update soon, that will fix/complete this workflow.
For now, please don’t remove/rename any of the files that show up on the iTunes shared list. Otherwise you might corrupt the gallery and/or sketches contents.
Thanks,

Hi,
I’m really excited about sketchbook mobile, but haven’t gotten file sharing to work as I would expect it to.
The was an update today that brought some success, thanks. I can now get psd & png files from the iPad to my Mac. I’ve placed two 1024 x 768 files (jpg & psd) into the sharing window, but I can’t see them on the iPad.  It’s a step in the right direction at least.

For now, SketchBook Pro for the iPad only supports “Export”. I guess what you are trying to do is “Import”. Please do it through the Photo Library and then start a new sketch by selecting the jpg/png (no psd for now) or add it to a layer.

I have an IPOD with sketchbook mobile app....until today my sketches automatically uploaded to my iphoto library on my Mac Book OS X when I opened it. Now iphoto says the format is not recognizable! I can’t figure out what has changed. AND I can’t seem to get the images to email either. Any ideas?

Wait, please tell me there’s a way to import TRANSPARENT png files! I mean, I’ve read what u say, there’s no input feature yet, but if I save to the photo library a transparent .png file, there must be a way to import it into sketchbook! This is really a show stopper missing feature! Being able to create a picture, then export it in photoshop and edit it so that you can handle transparent areas better (with the magic wand selection tool for example) and then being able to import back the transparent png to draw a background for it is an essential feature!
I understand if, for now, it’s hard to import pictures via itunes, but there must be a way to support transparency in loaded png files, right? Am I missing something? When I import a transparent PNG it is automatically flattened, no transparency at all :_(
This is driving me crazy, please help…

Thanks Ivan,
Yes, I attempted an import, which was more than I expected from it.  However, this would be a good feature, because I’ve already got a lot of sketches.  It would be nice to offload some, knowing I could reimport them in the future.  Given that I have tried to import, is there any known way to remove those files from the ipad now that I’ve added them? Itunes doesn’t allow me to.

On iTunes, Apps tab, SketchBook Window, you can select the file(s) and hit “Delete”.

Hey guys, hey Autodesk. So, when is it “soon” for you guys @ Autodesk? Not being able to use file sharing on iTunes to import drawings and/or pictures to the app is ridiculous… I assumed I could do that when I bought the app. And we’re in january 2011, and the “soon” update was mentioned in april 2010. Any news on that update?

Any news on this front!… still waiting find out if I can import layered .psd files into SBP. It’s a benefit that’s advertised yet have seen any feedback for almost a year…

All I can say for now is that “soon” is looking like just a few weeks.
Thanks for your patience.
