I’ve been spending hours with Autodesk Support and my reseller attempting to get audio playback through my Aja IO/XT via Smoke on iMac running Lion. Me, Autodesk and the reseller cannot get Smoke to play audio generated via internal test tone or that imported via wiretap. We’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing both Smoke and the AJA IO/XT drivers; as well as reverting back to the IO?XT 10.1 driver vs. the current 10.3.1 driver to no avail. The only audio that has played back so far is that imported directly into Smoke from a music CD. Weird, eh?
Is anyone running Smoke for Mac 2012 on an iMac with Lion and getting reliable audio playback through the AJA IO/XT?
My AJA IO/XT will playback audio from Final Cut Pro X and 7 without problems on the same system. Smoke is reporting an error that it can’t seem to get a “bit” file into the AJA IO/XT. Apparently this is the problem. Any help is appreciated since I’m unable to use this system that I just bought for its intended sessions.

Hi Ryan.
Have you tried driver version 10.3 (not 10.3.1)?
That’s the driver version we recommend for Lion.
10.3.1 is recommended for Snow Leopard.
Regards,
Robert.

Ironically I started with support using AJA io XT driver 10.3.1 but they instructed me to revert back to 10.1. Should I go back to 10.3.1?

I have tried AJA IO/XT drivers 10.1, 10.3 & 10.3.1 with 2012 SAP 2 & SAP2SP1 on two different physical IO/XT units. Amidst multiple re-installs of drivers, firmware, smoke, etc. - I can’t get audio playback on Smoke through the AJA IO/XT. Autodesk support and my reseller have also been unable to do so via personal visits and remote control of my system. I am having this problem in both OSX Lion 10.7.4 & 10.7.2.
Audio works perfectly fine through Final Cut Pro X & 7; this is clearly a problem with Smoke.
I also am unable to upload support files to Autodek via prefs in Smoke 2012 and there’s an error message explaining the .tar files can’t be created when I’m booting into Smoke.
Core audio works fine in Smoke… too bad no standard finishing session in the commercial world uses built in iMac speakers.
What a pain in the ass. Not as much of a pain as though as when we bought Toxik, only to have it updated to a point of crashing all the time and becoming a free product.

After much trial and error, I found the working OSX, AJA & Smoke combo for the latest possible updates with working audio. Smoke 2012 SA2 SP1 runs on OSX 10.7.4 with AJA IO XT driver 10.3 (not 10.1 or 10.3.1). Hopefully this will help Autodesk provide accurate support to Smoke + IO XT customers; since I was previously advised to only run OSX 10.7.2 and 10.1 AJA driver.
