Hi, I’m running a smoke2013 as standalone, on a macpro in a Xsan environment.

The server has put it self up at my Xsan metadata network, (172.16.0.101) but I should not be there…
How do I change it over to the other network card, which has 10.100.100.60 as an IP.

I now get error-mode on the server after each submitting, and my server will not ouput/export anything.

Manager hostname is changed to 10.100.100.60 but when going into safari at localhost/backburner and choosing my server it says 172.16 network and not the other net…

also, each time I try to restart BackburnerServer I get a crash-log-report file…

Hi.

Your logs seem to indicate that BB is already running on 10.100.100.60, but let’s force the server to use this address anyway.
1. Open Service Monitor and stop both BB services.
2. Open Terminal from the Applications > Utilities folder.
3. Type this command:

sudo nano /usr/discreet/backburner/Network/backburner.xml

4. Enter your password.
5. Use the arrow keys to scroll down into the file until you find this line:

<ServerName>studioa</ServerName>

6. Replace the name in between the tags with the IP address you want to use: 10.100.100.60
7. Press control+o and then Enter to save the changes.
8. Press control+x to close the file.
9. Close Terminal and restart the BB services in the Service Monitor.

Let me know if this worked.

Regards,
Robert.

I tried but did not work.

I also did a restart of the computer, still no luck.

The backburner webview still shows 172.16 net, but the xml file says <Servername>10.100.100.60....

?

If you run the following command in the Terminal, which IP gets returned, the 10.0 or the 172?

ping `hostname`

Thanks!
Robert.

I did ping studioa and it returned 10.100.100.60

That’s good. By all accounts it looks like BB is using the correct network interface. I don’t know why it lists the other one in the BB Monitor.
I’d like to take a look at the full set of logs and config files to see why BB doesn’t process your jobs.

Please unzip and run the attached app.
It will place a zip file on your Desktop containing Smoke logs, Smoke config files and info on your Mac’s network settings.
Please attach that zip to a reply to the forum or, if the attachment doesn’t work, e-mail it to me at robert dot adam at autodesk dot com.

Thanks!
robert

I did what you told me, and now the server runs on my 10.100.100.60 net, but ;

I managed to get one job through (on a local RAID), and the next I tried was on a XSAN, this one did not go through.

When checking in with Backburner Monitor, I see that the server has gone Error mode again.

But then, it healed it self, and now it runs again. I did collect the logs, do you want these as well ?

I’m glad to hear it works now.
If you run into this issue again, please feel free to e-mail the logs and a description of the problem to me.
