My English is bad, sry for that.
I work on some staff for our Aurora-Mod.de

When i create a Model in XSI, its still smoothed - thats fine.
But when i export the model to Sandbox2 its full of Hard Edges.
My Friends have 3dsmax and he have smoothing Groups.
He can define Hard Edges and all other get smoothed without more Polygons.

I want that Feature too in XSI.

Here a Example :

XSI :

Sandbox 2 :

Not absolutely certain but I think what your looking for is “Mark Hard Edges”.

--select object (polymesh)

--select edge ( i edge raycast )

-- right click, select mark hard edge at the bottom.
your setup may be different if your keyboard mapping is different but try searching for Hard Edge in the guide.

my system is rendering right now so I can’t be sure this is how to get to it, but I think that will help.

also you may try pressing the + and - keys on your num-pad to add or subtract subdivisions after you have defined hard edges.  If your looking to export to a certain format I don’t think I know.

Seems I lost my post so I’ll sum it up:
To me the problem looks less like something that involves smoothing groups, and instead is what to me looks like subdivision surfaces. It seems like it has been +’d a few times, and is only exporting the base level. To be honest though, I think that is actually a blessing - if it is subdivided your polycount will be quite massive for such a simple real-time asset, and I actually think the harder edges make it look better and more realistic as machines such as that tend to have them (function over form).

the problem is with the subdivs. Subdivs do not work in the export, you will have to work in the lowest subdiv level/pure polys.

Also ensure the cryshader and material library are correctly exported.
