My exported FBX models lose both textures and projections. For a simple test, try exporting a textured sphere (with frozen spherical projection) as an FBX with Embed Textures checked, then import that same FBX, and note that even in XSI it no longer has a texture. In an XNA project, even forcing a texture on the model results in an incorrect projection being used. Has anyone gotten FBX export to work with embedded textures and maintaining texture projections? 2009-11-10T06:22:03+01:00 XSI ModTool / Crosswalk Bug Exporting to FBX http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/xsi-modtool--crosswalk-bug-exporting-to-fbx/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/xsi-modtool--crosswalk-bug-exporting-to-fbx/page-last/#When:23:50:10Z Several people have reported problems with smoothing when exporting to FBX. We're seeing the same problem when exporting to FBX with ModTool 7.5 and Crosswalk 3.3. This can be reproduced on any object and is not limited to XNA - importing into other modeling applications / engines shows the same results. This is because the normals saved to the FBX file from XSI are smoothed regardless of how they're setup in XSI itself. Also the discontinuity option has no effect on the exported normals. The same models exported using the .X and .XSI formats contain the correct normals, however .X does not export correct texture / uv information, and the .XSI format is unusable until ModTool is updated for XNA 3.1. Where do we officially report this bug? 2009-09-14T23:50:10+01:00 XNA 3.1? http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/xna-31/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/xna-31/page-last/#When:18:03:31Z Will there be any support for XNA 3.1? 2009-09-14T18:03:31+01:00 compiling the plugin for xbox http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/compiling-the-plugin-for-xbox/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/compiling-the-plugin-for-xbox/page-last/#When:14:26:05Z Hi Guys, i've hit a massive stumbling block in my project. I recently converted to XSI mod tool pro, upgrading my xna membership specifically so I could get it. I really love working with it! Anyway, I intergrated it with my xna project as per the documentation, adding the included refrences etc, and it was all great. i've been testing on the pc for a while as I only do xbox builds periodically as pc start up is obviously alot faster. however this IS an xbox game im making so I decided to see how my new xsi models and effects looked on the xbox. Now I havnt finished converting all my media to xsi yet so I had to go through a few screens in my game until I got to a screen that used an xsi model - as soon as I got to that screen the game crashed.
An unhandled exception of type 'Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException' occurred in Microsoft.Xna.Framework.dll Additional information: Error loading "DATA_3DCardRuby". Cannot find ContentTypeReader XSIXNARuntime.XSIAnimationDataReader, XSIXNARuntime, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null.
after some digging around it seemed what I needed to do was open the included source code for the plugins and compile myself an XSIruntime.dll for the xbox specifically - makes sense. So I did that. However when I add my own compiled dll to my 360 game project my project refuses to build completely - it just throws this error:
Error 1 The "BuildContent" task failed unexpectedly. System.Reflection.ReflectionTypeLoadException: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. at System.Reflection.Module._GetTypesInternal(StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetTypes() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.AssemblyScanner.GetSearchAssemblyTypes() at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.WorkerAppDomain.RemoteProxy.LoadAssemblies(String[] searchAssemblies, String[] dependencies) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.WorkerAppDomain.RemoteProxy.LoadAssemblies(String[] searchAssemblies, String[] dependencies) at Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.Pipeline.Tasks.BuildContent.Execute() at Microsoft.Build.BuildEngine.TaskEngine.ExecuteInstantiatedTask(EngineProxy engineProxy, ItemBucket bucket, TaskExecutionMode howToExecuteTask, ITask task, Boolean& taskResult) Xbox 360 Copy (3) of MYGame
For 3 days now i've tried uselessly to fix this. I can compile the x86 version of the dll for windows and add it to my project no problem. But then I get the original crash at runtime when i run the project on the 360. The 360 dll just breaks my game project. Tried various versions of xna (3.0 and 3.1) etc and just nothing I can do works. Where am I going wrong? If I cant make these models work on the 360 then this is all a waste of time :( Thanks for your time and any help :) 2009-09-12T14:26:05+01:00 Trying to create a simple animation for my first 3D-model http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/trying-to-create-a-simple-animation-for-my-first-3d-model/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/trying-to-create-a-simple-animation-for-my-first-3d-model/page-last/#When:15:55:35Z Hello there, I'm currently working on my first ever 3D-model and it's a shark. I'm trying to create a simple swimming animation for it but don't know how to do really. I've attached the .xsi to this post so you can see how it looks. I know that it sucks, but I've always loved sharks and thought that it would be cool as a first project. So please, if you guys got any tips for me or any similar tutorials, go ahead and post them :) Thank you Kind Regards YaKoStar EDIT: Attaching doesn't seem to work, so I've added a link: http://www.2shared.com/file/6916208/7a6371e5/greatwhite.html 2009-07-30T15:55:35+01:00 touble saving Reference Models. http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/touble-saving-reference-models/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/touble-saving-reference-models/page-last/#When:16:29:31Z I have created a prop for a caractor of mine in another seen and wish it to be in the seen with my chartor as a referenced model I not figured out how to save/convert the in to a refernced modle. Please let me know if there is a better forum for this. Issue #1 (question): Currently I am using ModTool 6.01 Mod Tool.2008.1218 trying to export directly to the dotXSI format which I will later consume on my game engine's tool chain. When I try to export via File->Export->dotXSI, using version 3.6 if I set the Polygon Type to export to Triangles or Triangle Strips Mod tool gives me an error message and then crashes. Error: Function not implemented in EXP version. Error: Failed to save scene before system failure. Obviously the crash is not expected, but is ModTool supposed to be able to export to triangles/strips? I could not find info on this on the docs. Issue #2 (bug report): Crosswalk v3.11 cannot be used cleanly on Visual Studio 2005, the compiler complains about tempalted classes having dllimport decorations, which are not valid for template classes or function instantiations. Removing "XSIEXPORT" from template classes CSLArrayProxy (sl_array.h) and CSLEnumProxy (sl_enum.h) fixes the compilation problem for me, but it is probably not the right solution. The reason why this is probably not the right solution is because CSLArrayProxy is fully templated so it should not use dllimport/dllexport, CSLEnumProxy on the other hand on top of being templated also implements a publis interface (CSLAnimatableType) which could cause issues with its usage down the road again. Let me know if there is a better forum for this. 2009-06-21T11:22:37+01:00 Trying to make a simple animated model work in XNA. http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/trying-to-make-a-simple-animated-model-work-in-xna/page-last/ http://area.autodesk.com/forum/autodesk-softimage-modtools/microsoft-xna/trying-to-make-a-simple-animated-model-work-in-xna/page-last/#When:11:20:43Z Hello all, Could you guys please give some detailed steps needed to create a very basic animating model, which works in XNA? In one thread on this forum it was written what you need to do to get animated models created in Softimage to play in XNA: Apparently animations will not play in XNA unless you have textures and a shader applied to your model. I was testing with the simplest of models to prove animation worked so did not bother to texture the model - hence it did not work. Once I added a texture/shader it worked. I think my problem is either applying the texture/shader or my animation is done wrong. I am trying to make a very simple model that has a rotating animation. I managed to add an "Action" to the X4N_AnimationManager and the animation plays in Softimage, but not in XNA. Everything in XNA is OK, since I'm able to play the animations on the example Robot that comes with Softimage. Although I'm not sure that I'm creating the KeyableParams correctly. I also think I managed to add a shader in the "Material Manager" since I can see my model in the camera viewport with DirectX9 mode. I used the "Lambert.fx", which comes with Softimage's example files. PS: I'm using XNA 3, VC# 2008 Express and SoftImage 7.5 Mod Tool. My graphics card supports only DX9 and shader 1.1 or 1.0. 2009-06-21T11:20:43+01:00
