So for bout 6 months or so, ive been using Softimage XSI 6 mod tool, ive been using it primarily for modding on the source engine.... Now recently i bought XSI softimage 7, and ah… they arent the same… i kinda got 7 because i thought it better than 6 and had the same functionality/features. Now i cant import/export files, i dont have my old customized UI and i feel that im fu%*#d… so, am i? is there any way i can get the importing/exporting thingy into 7, and my old UI? and XSI 7 saves as .SCN files while XSI 6 mod tool saves as .EXP files so i cant open the work that i did in 6. P.S i still have XSI 6 mod tool installed on this pc… please help, thx in advance, excuse suggestion topic title.

Welll… You should have known the Modtool scenes are not compatible with any version of XSI, for some good reasons. Your layout shouldn’t be an issue, I don’t think that’s a different file altogether. Just copy the layout from the modtool to XSI and you’re fine.

Sorry to dissapoint you,

rob

You should contact the SI support. They could convert the exps into scns.

I thought ModTool had dotxsi export.  If not, I suppose you could export your models out as .smd files and them import them into regular version of XSI.

Yeah export to .xsi and import that into XSI 7,
or just import the .smd files after installing the valve plugin.

I used 7 for a while but hat crach problems with the trial version in combination with some of the valve tools (can’t really remember the exact problem)
7.5 seems interesting tough :)

Were you using the icon interface of mod tool? I don’t think thats availeble in the other versions as its a simpler layout for learning the tool or something
(never used it as I started learning with the first version of mod tool that didn’t had the icons layout).

I’m sorry to inform you my friend.  But you are out of luck unless Crosswalk Export/Import will do the trick for you (you would have redraw your bones).  Softimage didn’t have a solution for me in this exact same regard a year ago.... and i would be dumbstruck if Autodesk is going to do anything for you.

It was a huge pain in the ass for me… and i lost some work over it, but it is possible to salvage your work somewhat if you are willing to use crosswalk.  If you have animations, it is possible to bring in your old stuff with crosswalk, save action sources externally… and then bring them in on a fresh new rig (if it has the same structure as your previous rig, the file will likely map the animation to the new rig without any trouble.) Then use GATOR for the rest.
