| Does the ValveSource addon work with XSI 7?
|
|
|
I’m trying to get the ValveSource addon installed in XSI 7 and it doesn’t seem to be working. I installed it and if I open the Plugin Window it looks like it is in there but “ValveSource” never shows up in the menu bar (as it does in the Mod Tool and XSI 6 with the addon installed).
Does the ValveSource addon even work with XSI 7?
I’m thinking it hasn’t been updated yet because the current addon available for download is still named “ValveSource.6.02.xsiaddon”. Could this be why it doesn’t work?
Any info or help on this issue would be greatly appreciated!
(I need to keep working with the Source engine and I don’t want to go back to XSI 6!)

The current addon (6.02) runs fine with v7.
Maybe try uninstalling the addon and redownloading it.

Thanks for the confirmation David!
I did try uninstalling the addon, re-downloading it, and re-installing it but I seem to get the same problem.
I’m thinking that maybe I’m installing it wrong or something, do you think you could outline the installation steps for me?
Also, I’m running Vista on my home computer and I’m wondering if that might cause any problems with the addon.
I talked with a friend who is experiencing a similar problem in that he can get “ValveSource” to show up in the menu bar but the “Export .SMD” command is not there (which is pretty much the most important command, ha ha). Any ideas on this issue?

I’m running Vista, so that rules that out… Only issue I have is a conflict between ValveSourceShapeTools2.vbs, but I’m not worried about that. I think it just tried to install it twice and renamed it, dunno…
For installing, I could either drag and drop the xsiaddon onto the XSI interface to get it to install to User. (still had the ShapeTools2.vbs conflict). So that should work for you.
But I’d rather have my stuff in my workgroup (which I strongly recommend you creating). So to delete the previous User install, I went into plugin manager and uninstalled it. I then had to go into the user directory and delete the 2 instances of it there. To install in workgroup, I went Addon/Install, selected the addon, selected workgroup, and installed it. Everything shows up fine (well, still get that conflict error with ShapeTools2, but oh well).
In fact, I went thru the menu options and actually noticed a help file. :P Wow - guess you can import .qc files to import the models/animations (and hopefully textures correctly).

Thanks for the help but, unfortunately, I still can’t get it to work.
I dragged and dropped the addon from the download page into XSI and this error message popped up:
“This plug-in is not compatible with the current platform and will be ignored:.
“
Then I restarted XSI and opened the Plugin Manager and this is what my screen looks like:

It looks like it’s installed but I still am not getting “ValveSource” in the menu bar.
(Also, when I start XSI I get an error message that says:
“This plug-in is not installed: SINet”
I don’t think that would have anything to do with my problem but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway.)
Any more ideas or solutions?

Maybe its because you are using XSi 64 bits and dwigfor is using 32 bits.

Good point Marco! (but how did you know he was running 32-bit? ha ha)
David, are you running 32 or 64 bit Vista?
Now, I guess my revised question should be:
Does the ValveSource addon work with XSI 7 on 64-bit Vista? (and why can’t I get it to work?)
Please help !!!

I am running Vista 32bit. Perhaps that’s the problem, but I’m not sure why.. Do you happen to have the 32bit version of XSI7 installed? Maybe try running that to see if it works.
I’m hoping to upgrade to Vista 64 over the holidays, but this kinda makes me nervous now.. Anyone else running Vista64 and ValveSource addon?

I don’t have the 32 bit version of XSI 7 installed but maybe I should look into it. Hopefully, the license server won’t give me any problems, ha ha.
I’m thinking it’s about time to submit an official support ticket to Softimage regarding the ValveSource addon with XSI 7. Anyone agree?

Of course! Why didn’t I think of that!

*sigh* ...Does anyone know if the ValveSource addon works with XSI 7 on 64-bit Vista?
