try to install both XSi 6 and xsi 7 with smd 6.02 plugin. open once xsi 6 with smd 6.02 active in the xsi 6, then open xsi 7 smd 6.02 should work with the xsi 7 now. then close xsi 6. don’t unstall the xsi 6. i had these problems with smd 5.xx plugin with xsi 6 before . hope that will help. or wait for smd 7 plugin.

Hmm, interesting suggestion. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don’t have XSI 6 on my home computer (I had previously been using it at school). Will my license for XSI 7 work for XSI 6 (or 6.5) also? It seems like previous versions of XSI should be available if I have a license for the latest version but it would be a real bummer to screw up XSI 7 by trying to install XSI 6. I did have a tough time getting XSI 7 to run on my computer and took a fair amount of emails back and forth with tech support before we got it working. I would hate to mess it up but I would also like to be able to work with Source.

Anyone know if my XSI 7 license will let me use XSI 6 also? If it does, is there a special method of getting them both to work?

there is a free version of xsi 6 mod tool you can download, it had been offline in softimage for weeks, try to google it or ask the forum here.

Yeah, I had attempted to install Mod Tool awhile ago and I could never get it to work. I installed it but it would always crash when I tried to run it. Once I got XSI 7 I figured that I didn’t need it anymore but now I’m wondering if I should try to get it working again. It’s nice that it comes with the Valve Source stuff already installed and it would be cool if they would start doing that with XSI too (so I wouldn’t have to deal with this problem, ha ha).

Any more help or info is greatly appreciated.

I just upgraded to Vista 64 yesterday.  When I tried installing the ValveSource addon, in both 7.01 ESS32 and 7.01 ESS64, I experienced this same problem… I’m gonna try downloading xsi6 and see if I can get it running as the earlier poster suggested…

Just when things were going so good.....

A New Year’s toast to Phillip Lee!  Bingo!

After installing XSI 6 ESS32 and the Valve addon, it looks like the Valve addon works perfect with XSI 7.01 ESS32.  Still doesn’t work with 7.01 ESS64; “This plugin is not compatible with the current platform and will be ignored.”

Im having the same problem, I have XSI 7 and I have tried all the valve addons but none of them work. The export button doesnt show up. It is installed but there is no export as smd option. Im on Vista 32bit.

The SMD, VMF, and Weight plugins are 32-bit compiled plugins, and they cannot be used in 64-bit XSI. To use the Valve Soure addon, you’ll have to install a 32-bit version of XSI.

Gah same problem, smd exporters are not showing up in 64 bit, how can I force xsi to install the 32 bit version?

Any chance they compile the tools in 64 bit?
Who would have to do it, softimage or valve?
