ok so i followed ur instructions, but now i have the following problem, in the new mesh (made from the gun and the added objects)(they have been uv mapped) i get a 3rd cluster called cylinder, and when i select that cluster and look in the texture editor, it shows me that it has the uv map for the added object AND one of the previous clusters....seems buggy to me, because i wanted to have the uv map from the new object to be added to the other uv map cluster. any way to fix this? p.s if i remove the cluster (cylinder, for example) the added object on the gun loses its texture. thx in advance.

It’s not a bug. The UV editor will get messy, but each cluster uses a different material so it works out in the end. Deleting the cluster gets rid of the new material for those faces, which is why it loses its texture.

so i just leave it like that? because the added object is small, and it gets its own 1:1 space? tooo much for 1 cylinder

Depends on the texture size, 1:1 might not be that big if you’re only using 64x64 or 128x128.
Otherwise, don’t give the cylinder a cluster of it’s own, add it to an existing cluster/material and find a suitable place for its UVs.

f1, “clusters”.

Read up on them because you’re starting to cofnuse me :P
There should only be one UV set at the moment, even if you have 10 clusters. The clusters just tell those faces to use another material/texture, not another set of uvs.

In this case delete the cluster for the cylinder. Reselect the faces from the cylinder, hold shift, select the cluster you want to add it to. Hit the + button under the Edit pallete and it should add these new faces to the selected cluster.

Thx, you helped out alot. sorry for the confusion… i deleted the cylinder cluster (cylinder faces became untextured), selected the faces, selected the cluster, right clicked, and selected “add to cluster”. that fixed it.

I couldnt find the “+” under the edit panel....

It’s a tiny button.

Oh thats the one, i dont use the view that has the + button, i like the mod tool view (the one that doesnt have the arrow on the top right, a la XSI 7). i tried using XSI 7, COULD NOT select a polygon on a cube. Had to use raycast polygon selection to select it.... really sad imho. but anyway, its done, thx for the help.
