Hi

I am a novice in modeling, I was hoping someone could point me to a crash course in creating a basic model in Softimage Mod Tool and the steps to take to getting it to work in CS:S. Just a basic model is fine it can be just a sphere or a triangle or something, im not worried about animating it just yet.

Ive done a bunch of maps in Source Hammer Editor but want to learn to make basic models of my own to use here and there.

I have watched so many videos and read thru some tutorials but they always start off with a detailed model and none have shown the steps from creation all the way to getting it running in CS:S.

Thanks for any help.

Hi, i found this tutorial to be quite good, it has everything, from making to texturing to intergrating into source. I hope you enjoy it and learn lots

http://www.cgarena.com/freestuff/tutorials/xsi/noesis_xsi/dynamite.html

Part 1 has the modeling and texturing

Part 2 has the integration.

Best Regards,
Illidan.

EDIT: It is by Noesis, they have some other tutorials, search for em. The Version of Softimage in the video is version 6, but most of the stuff still applies.

Also, you can use the Valve Source addon for exporting/importing of SMD’s, which can be found here with download links as well as information : http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Softimage_Mod_Tool

just pop it into the addon folder in Softimage folder, then start up XSI and go file, and install addon or something like that, and TA-DA!

EDIT 2: on the link above it says that the latest version doesnt work with XSI 7.5, i dont know but mine works, its not the latest version tho. If you want i could send the addon to you by email.
