I’m just looking for a bit of advice and a point in the right direction! I am wanting to create some small games for personal use only to give me a basic grasp af all the processes involved in game creation. With a budget of £0($0), i was looking for a suitable game engine that was FOC(for modeling, surprise surprise, i have Softimage Mod tool - thanks Autodesk). Have you any recomendations for good/user friendly game engines out there that are free/have free non-comm licenses, and the pros and cons of it/them? Sorry to be so vague, but i am still just trying to get a feel for everything!

Appreciate your time in putting up with me..!

You may wish to take a look into Unity3D. It has got a free versiona. Take a look at the specs and differences to the Pro version at:

GameCore - Simple editor, easy to operate. Poor support. No community.

DX Studio. Average editor. Great support. Active community. Pretty good all rounder.

Torque 3D isn’t free but it’s only $99. Seems very capable but I haven’t had much experience of it.

Unreal3 - Arguably the best engine in the world. Huge community and plenty of resources. A nightmare to use though, especially for a beginner.

There are others out there but these are my top 4. Along with Unity.
