Importing .vtf files into XSI shifts them to the side? I can’t remember if I imported the .qc or .vtf for the Tank but I remember he was rotated 90 degree on the X axis when I imported him into XSI/Maya. That would explain that oddity.
It would be amazing to get these models with rigging attached. Hopefully someone with enough coding know-how can crack the code. I’ve never heard of Collada though but it’ll be worth checking out if there’s hope to transfer over the model’s rigs.
My guess with the Smoker mishap is that since his tongue has its own form of physics and because it’s attached to his head it messes up the geometry? I’m not sure really… Even though the explosions are different each time converted, the head is always the worst with his feet/legs having far less fragmentation. In any case, not sure how to resolve that issue.
The eyes were taken from the following directory within the .vpk pack:
Root > Materials > Models > Survivors
Even though each character has there own eye textures within their respective folders they are saved as .vmt which I can’t open to re-save as .tga. However, on the directory I mentioned above, they have green/blue/brown eye textures that can be placed on any model as they’re saved at .vtf format. There’s a handy Photoshop plugin that allows you to open/edit/save .vtf files which is how I got the texture info.

Yeah, it’s weird with vtfs - I’ll have to post pics later…
With the smoker, try deleting the envelope operator (under mesh/polygon mesh) in XSI before exporting. That should work fine (tongue and all).
Reason I mentioned the eyes - they’re done with shaders..

Thanks, I’ll re-try the Smoker later on tonight. I also should have mentioned that I noticed the eyes came with an ambient occlusion map.

hello everybody !
excuse me that i appeard suddenly !
i followed your instructions on this topic and finally succeed to extract skeleton and 3d models of l4d EXCEPT for SURVIVORS please someone check where is my mistake ?
I working with REVOLUTiON CSM SourceSDK SP3 but mdldecompiler dont work for me although i overwrite it by version 4 !
|
|
|

I dunno… I guess all I could recommend was to try reextracting the survivor models and try again (for some reason, mine had gotten corrupted, and finally worked when I did this).
Perhaps it has something to do with the alternate sdk-maybe it’s not up-to-date enough…
Sorry I can’t be more help. Re-read this entire thread carefully and try again and again and again. (and maybe try the newest mdldecompiler along with the previous version...)

Fereydoon, sorry to inform you, but the L4D SDK isn’t out yet, so that’s why it doesn’t appear in your dropdown list (or mine). I heard it’s due in the spring, so hopefully maybe later this month, or at least in the next month or two.
Do a google search (and also check out http://www.fpsbanana.com and http://www.l4dmods.com) for some info on how you can get custom maps running now.. I haven’t tried this yet, so I can’t provide much info. I guess first thing would be to try to decompile the game, locate the maps and try to load them into Hammer. I think there’s a list of entities that you need on Valve Developer Community site. Then compile it for HL2:Ep2 and copy the bsp files over to the L4D directory… Something like that....

I haven’t tried crafty.. But I think I may have downloaded it.. I’ll take a look when I get a free moment (prob not for a while...).
Have you tried changing the mdl files with notepad++? I wonder if they might export after you accomplish that.
EDIT: I’d also use the script I provided earlier in the thread to copy dx80 and dx90 files for the models. That might also help exporting your obj....
