Not sure which is the best section to put this in, so here goes…
I have downloaded softimage mod tool, and am looking to try and play about with it! This is a bit of an odd question I know, but has anyone got any (free) games that I could edit characters, models and scenes etc, and see the effects of animation/renders etc in the finished article. Trust that is a inteligent/reasonable request!

You can download Unity3D and Unreal Development Kit (udk) for free. Both are 3d game engines that are easily compatible, and I think should also include example projects you can quickly begin to use.
Valve also has a free game called Alien Swarm which makes use of the Source Engine.
