I’ve never done weapons..  Should be fairly easy, since it has no animating parts.  You need two models - one that you see the player holding, and one that you would see lying around in the world.  You’d probably have to figure out how to use it as a melee weapon.

You can probably find a tutorial for importing weapons on http://www.fpsbananna.com or just do a search in google and you’ll find tons.

It’s pretty easy to import objects as static props (they don’t move) or props_physics.  There used to be a great tutorial on the old SI:Net site; hopefully it got copied over here along with all my other threads..  Do a search on this forum; there should be a wealth of information.

Here’s a group shot.  Need to find the correct Eyeball textures (mine has a shader with lots of weird colors), and might incorporate normal map textures in future…

Enjoy,
-Dave

So the survivors finally turned into zombies right, because of their white eyes??… :P

But what exactly do you benefit from extracting the models from the game to XSI??

Would you like to learn how game assets are constructed?  With the aid of the awesome Valve Community, you can deconstruct how Valve’s fantastic games are created.  You can modify the game assets and create your own Valve mod.  IMHO, It is a HUGE educational value for the price of the game.  Killing zombies is a bonus!

Problem with the eyes… I just rushed and assigned the closest .vtf file..  To fix it, the correct way would be to open the .vmt file in notepad, and find the correct .vtf file.

I was impressed with the characters in L4D, the sequel is even more impressive.
Nice work.

The intro movie for L4D2 is very impressive.  It’s always a treat to see their cinematics.  It would be great if they’d create background movies on each of the characters, kinda like they do for Team Fortress 2.

Working on the infected next…
