| Where do I put the ValveSource XSI Addon?
|
|
|
[LEFT]ValveSource.0105.01.xsiaddon - Where do I put this file? I can’t export until I put this somewhere…

I just threw it in C:\Softimage\Softimage_Mod_Tool_7.5\Addons
It might not matter where you put it though. Then just go to
File>Add-on>Install
and select the file.

Thanks, I just didn’t know I had to go Addons -> Install. Now I am having trouble exporting it. Where do I go to export it? I am trying to go Export -> Model but it is not working. No window or anything is showing up…

Export>Model exports the model to an Softimage-specific format, and isn’t an option in Modtool.
To export for the Source engine, after installing the valvetools addon you should see a ValveSource option in the top menu bar (might have to restart XSI). Just select the model and go to Valvesource>Export SMD

I have restarted XSI (by closing it and then running it again) and have loaded my model, but I do not have a ValveSource option. I have reinstalled the ValveExport Addon but that has not worked either. I originally made the model in Blender, and then exported it to “dotXSI” (.xsi) and have imposted the model into XSI, if that helps.

Ok, I have a problem again. I select the whole model by draging a box around it, and then I go ValveSource -> Export SMD. It comes up with a menu and I name the file and everything, but then I get an error down the bottom in red saying “Nothing to export”. Could this have anything to do with me using Blender...?

Nope. There would be nothing getting in the way between using Blender with XSI.
In order to export the model, it requires having a texture projection / uv coordinates. Otherwise you’ll get that error.

Ok, as long as it is not a problem with Blender -> XSI -> Source.
Sorry to keep bothering you with all my questions, but how exactly do I do this “texture projection / uv coordinates”? All I was hoping to use XSI for was a simple texture and export, expecting it would be much easier then this of course.

There are plenty of ways to go about doing it. A few of the methods can be seen here:

Creating a texture projection is a very simple process; creating a good one can be much harder though (unless you are using basic primitives like a cube or sphere).
