Hey, prior to today I’ve only ever had experience animating half life characters in milkshape 3D. While I’m fine with animating in Milkshape at the moment, I think it would be better overall for myself and my team at naiteki-kensei.com to delve into XSI to help productivity and quality of our work.
I opened up xsi, was able to import one of our characters. Found it easy enough to figure out how to apply our skin maps but am having trouble now rigging the character. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, I was wondering if I could possibly get some tips on things I should be doing when working with a low poly model. And to stop this annoying issue here:

This happens when I move his arm…
The method I used to rig him I followed through a tutorial. Biped guide resized in x-ray mode, and then assigned through ‘setting envelope’
What am I doing wrong? If maybe someone with the time could spend some 1 on 1 time with me to help with troubleshooting?
EDIT: IF this could be moved to rigging, would be great. Thanks

Hi, seems like just need to adjust the envelopes :)

Hey,
Looks like you have those few vertices weighted to the wrong bones so they are moved with them.
You need to paint their weights or assign them to correct bones, that should do the trick.
If you need more details just shout.

Would be awesome! Perhaps you could send me a private message with some contact details… I’d like to know how to weight it properly. Would be greatly appreciated!

Did you happen to envelope it to the correct deformers?
When I first started using XSI, I mistakenly enveloped it to the entire rig. If you create a guide rig, and then create a rig from the guide, you’ll notice that it creates a group named “envelope_group”. When enveloping your character, you should branch select (mmb) the “envelope_group.” If your rig is custom, you’ll have to create this yourself (create a xsi rig and see what’s placed inside the envelope_group).
Or maybe you just have it weighted wrongly, but that seems a little extreme from the pic you provided.
