how do i add texture to a model of a man in hidden line removal view that i got off of the primative format

For starters, you’ll probably want to switch the viewport from ‘Hidden Line Removal’ to ‘textured’ or ‘textured decal’so that you’ll be able to see the texture.

If it doesn’t have one assigned, you can either attach a texture node in the Render Tree, or go to Get-Texture-Image on the Render Toolbar. Give it a texture projection in the same window, and then you can start to edit the uvs with the Texture Editor (Alt+7)

thank you cyrid for the info but i do not understand what the render tree is and how to get to it or use do you know of any videos i can use to learn how to do it or and good videos that will teach me the software?
