Why with Subscription Advantage Pack 3ds max now have iray and XSI and Maya nothing?
It is possible to enable iray within XSI???

Viewcube made me laugh, so many people were joking t hat Autodesk was going to include it as an update back when they acquired SI.

It’s a sweet looking update though, good call including Lagoa and Polygonizer (and a little more incentive for studios that use Maya to get a helping hand from SI)

good update, still its depressing to not have mental ray touched, i wish they would work seriously on render because we have only that and we still are missing features from 3.8 release wich was time ago.
irradiance particles, IBL, FG+IP, iRay..

I don’t get what ICE Deformations are they seem like the same deformations under the deform panel only in ICE.

What is ICE for Artists?

o One new Dual layout
o No ICE Layout

What is viewcube ? And correct me if I’m wrong they removed the ICE Panel ??? And one Dual Layout so they have changed the entire Softimage layout, correct? Is there a screen shot? The rest of the changes etc I can put together from what I understand.

check the videos, viewcube is the same in maya and max, wich actually is good and since softimage interface is not slow like maya and max, viewcube would be nice, you can disable it too.

means usually you connect a node to another node using the pickwhip and going from left (output) to right (input) port, now you can do backward too, is just a small update but nice.

for viewcube just google 3ds max viewcube or maya viewcube, there are horror stories about it.
Its the autodesk mark of doom :)

They clean layout list, most of them werent’ that usefull, and added an ICE column panel the panels you switch usually pressing 1 2 3 4 number, now there is a new one for ICE and Lagoa.

Viewcube is dummy proofing the program IMO.  I find it a useless thing to add but I’m not on the Autodesk Dev team !! nCache is taking from Maya, doesn’t Maya have names for things that begin with “n” ??? The the usual a slew of ICE compounds, I’m beginning to wonder if you will be able to take Softimage apart and put it together the way you want with ICE, literally in the future in other words it will be a like a giant programming software like going back in the days of PovRay but with a more friendlier, approach but with a price tag.  I think Autodesk needs to bring back “foundation” version for Max,Maya and Softimage:

Softimage
Softimage ICE.

There are you’re two different versions of Softimage one with a cheaper price tag to compete with programs such as Blender or other 3D apps that are cheaper and then Softimage ICE with what I had mentioned earlier in this post.

The new SI2011.5 update is really awesome!!!!
Lagoa and Polygonizer are great improvements and ICE seems to will be more intuitive.
I don’t like (and don’t use) “viewcube” and i had preferred some more mentalray improvements…
But in all the case, my modest opinion is SI2011.5 is a very great update.

Softimage has done it again.

For the cube… well for Softimage users like us it is simply hilarious.  But I think this gimmick will help others… Specially in 2012 when Mayans predicted the end of the Maya world. he he he…

What does Softimage Composite exactly mean? Is it going to be an enhanced Softimage Illusion or a new compositor (like Maya Composite, I suppose)?

It’s the same thing as Maya Composite and 3ds Max Composite: the product formerly known as Toxik.

Identically how compositing looks in Maya it will look in Softimage ?

I was waiting for Toxik to be in Softimage, I just like how the workflow is on it.  I just wish that ICE for Artist was more on how learning ICE rather then letting a 3rd party like Digital Tutors handle that task. Teaching on how to do stuff, you so you can build your own compounds rather then pre-built ones.
