I have softimage 2012 and motionbuilder 2012 installed.  Soft does not have motion builder listed in the send to applications and motion builder does not have soft listed.  How do I add them to both pieces of software so I can use the send to option?

You cannot set that up yourself, not without implementing your own “send to” system.

First, there’s a dedicated plugin in each app to support that.
Second, these plugins know how to use the inter-app “hub” api that we use to implement Send To.

Thanks, Stephen, (cool name AND you spell it correctly) BTW that is my name/spelling as well.  :)

Would a re-install of Softimage recognize that i have Motionbuilder 2012 installed and then add it to the list?  Is there really now way to get it to show up on the list?  At the University we install the creation suite and it adds them.  However when I use the educational install of each it does not appear to see the other app.  I did install Motionbuilder after Softimage so I wonder if a re-install of Soft would find Motion builder.  Is this how it works?

You’ve seen “Send to MotionBuilder” in Softimage? I didn’t know that existed. No version of Softimage I’ve installed has had a Send to MotionBuilder command in the OneClick plugin (you can use the Plugin Manager to check).

PS
The One-Click functionality uses files in the “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Autodesk\Synergy\” folder to identify the applications that can be used as a target application when you transfer a file this way.

it’s not programmed in Softimage or Motion Builder, you cannot add it yourself.
it’s really the same thing as doing an FBX export and import in Motion Builder.

In the case of Maya, there is stuff that it does more to link with particles in ICE, and in Mudbox to link with texture.  There nothing to link with in Motion Builder, Softimage doesn’t support HumanIK (unlike Maya)

Unfortunately it won’t matter which is installed first. I have a feeling it has to do with the basic incompatibility of the way deformer chains are setup, hence the motionbuilder template and shadow rig methods.

Just to add one more Voice.

Please add it as soon as possible.

Even if we were forced to be now “Maya Entertainment Creation suite” costumers, Softimage is our main Tool so I expect in a suite that I have the same interop options no matter which of the 4 programs included in the Suite I use.
