Hello,

I have just started to learn how to use SoftImage. I am trying to rig a face for face robot / lip sync.

During the process it tells me the eyes need to be centred on their pivot, My eye origins are currently at the characters feet. I have read from several sources that i should select the eyes and click Transform->Move Center To Vertcies to move the origin, however when i do this my eyes and origin seem to swap position. My eyes are now at the foot of the character and my origin is in the eye sockets. I have found this happens with all objects, if i move the origiin it also effects the geometry. My understanding is that moving the transforms center should not affect the geometry, am i doing something wrong?

Thanks

karl

If you have a parent>child heirarchy setup and then move the origin of the parent the child will move unless you engage the childcompensation modifier. You’ll have to disable this when you start animating or the child will no longer follow the parents movements.

You can always use the match transform command to move the object back to the parent location.

The eye is a child of the main body however i am trying to set the eyes origin, not its parent. I have also removed the eye from its parent and still get the same problem.

Not quite a duplicate post. I first had the problem in Softimage, then thought i would try to adjust the origin in max and found the same issue. I thought it was just a softimage problem but i guess not, must be something in the file/model.

Hello,

I have found that if i remove the Envelope Operator from the eye then the operation works as expected and the origin and eye are in the correct position. Can anyone tell me why this is happeneing or if removing the Envelope Operator is going to cause me more problems further down the line?

Thanks

Karl
