What makes people think Autodesk is trying to kill Softimage?

the slow updates for features in softimage?

Maya is still selling very well and they don’t want to loose maya to a better softimage?

Are they going to merge all the code of Softimage and put it in a standalone or plug-in to Maya?

Are they going to get Maya up to speed with some of Softimage’s tools like face robot ect.

OR is all about selling all the packages in one and force us to learn all of them and get paid the
same salary? if so that really sucks

PS.

I took a break from 3D four years ago, Maya gave me a head ache, And I was unsure of Maya’s direction please enlighten me on what I have missed in the years.

Autodesk is not killing Softimage at all. The speed of development since the takeover has been amazing. ICE has branched out into almost all areas of the software and is now an uber feature.

nice to hear. I do love the software and even thinking of dumping maya for now while I get up to speed on softimage. I always liked the UI over maya’s but in school they only stick to maya hope things change. Softimage is best for games in my book if your low on programmers. thanks agian:)

By the way, the Area is pretty dead in terms of Softimage. Most of the action happens on
http://www.xsibase.com
http://www.si-community.com
and the mailing list (archive: http://groups.google.com/group/xsi_list/topics )

AD is moving SI to the TD and effects side with the focus on ICE they have...no improvements in other areas.

The last comments makes some logical sense.  Although they may change, do minor improvements on other areas of the program in general AD focus will be on ICE.

ICE rocks too much to even think about to drop that masterpiece of software, i think.
why are there so (too) many discussions on that topic and almost none about experiences about features like ice modelling… ... ...

maybe it’s even going to be renamed to ICEimage or softICE ;-)

Because creating a masterpiece is not enough if you dont show it to other people.
Most of the time Softimage tutorials/videos/tricks/goodness are buried and scattered all around the web between professionals/hobbyst/girls and gals.

The problem is that Autodesk seems not care to push and market Softimage, for some reason wich is unknown to mortals, and so many many people dont know about it.
The moment you touch Softimage and start digging you just spit out “Wtf? why this Software is not publicized and marketed in a better way?” That is the usual reaction.

Softimage lately is being used everywhere due to many things, not only ICE, but noone speaks about it, again for some unknown reason.
What i’ve found is if you take a bit of time and start digging and browsing Softimage related forums/webs/plugins it is really amazing what you will find.

I think they need to market it more, and they’ll sell it more. Its simply amazing.

1st post for me. Coming recently from Lightwave, I recognized immediately the whole lack of marketing issue (lack of, or just plain bad in the case of Newtek) and it really can become a problem later so hopefully they will do something about it. Anyway It’s difficult to come up with a good business model when you have multiple software that all do very similar things. Like it was mentioned, they will either continue to improve the strong points to specialize each package and push the “suite” idea, or they will allow each one compete with the other (think large car company owning many divisions).

Well, they’ve increased the price and massively increased the maintenance, giving us only the Gold support option and no basic subscription!

That should help :) (sarcasm)

I agree. I love maya but can’t help to love softimage alot more and it seems faster, easier workflow to get my stuff done. Seems when theres a good product out there the pros tend to stay quiet about there gems. Softimage ftw
