I’ve been trying to follow some tutorials and such to learn more about xsi, and i ran into a few questions (because the tutorials didn’t quite say every button they’re pressing)
1) how do i loop select, such as select a whole line of edges around a gun barrel (in my instance)???
2) I’ve seen where people draw a box around part of they’re model, and it textures it into the color, while the rest of the model outside the box isn’t colored. How is this done? if u want i guess i could put a link to a picture of what i’m talking about if u can’t understand me.
3) One of the tutorials i was watching, this guy was using an older version of xsi it looked like, and he had a button to select only border edges (i believe it was called this) again in his instance, his selecting box didn’t matter how big it was, it only selected the edge of his gun barrel. How is this done in xsi 6? (the one i’m using)
I’ll post again if i can think of anymore questions. Thanks!!!

What tutorials were you watching?
I’m just going to take a stab at it:
1. alt+middle mouse click on the edge to select the loop
2. Sounds like a render region, press hotkey Q to activate and use it
3. He was probably using a border edge selection filter, you can access this from the filter menu button on the Select panel while in edge mode.

You would have to switch to the Default layout (click View > Layouts > Default).
The ModTool layout, which is what you are using, does not expose all the selection filters.
