When installing plug-ins they always add themself in the locations in which they were intended to be installed.  I want a to move them all to a toolbar is this possible, without having to re-install ?

Yes, you need only a new Class-ID for your original Main Shelf.
the Steps:
01. the Main Shelf save as ”myNewShelf” in your User Folder
Example c:\users\yourname\...\Application\toolbars\myNewShelf.xsitb)
02. then Menue -> View -> New Custom Shelf ...
03. save the empty Shelf in your User Folder
(Example c:\users\yourname\...\Application\toolbars\SI_Main_Shelf.xsitb)
04. close Softimage/XSI
05. open your new created Shelf file ”SI_Main_Shelf.xsitb” with a Text Editor
(ConTEXT, Notepad++)
06. delete line 5 -> 9
07. open the orginal Main_Shelf.xsitb from SI Factory Folder
(Example C:\Softimage\XSI_7.01_x64\Application\toolbars\Main_Shelf.xsitb)
08. copy line 5 -> End of File
09. paste this in ”SI_Main_Shelf.xsitb” and save the file, close the Text Editor
10. start SI, redesign your Main Shelf (it’s myNewShelf) and save is (a copy from orginal is under Menu -> View -> Toolbars -> “SI_Main_Shelf")

Note: When you delete ”myNewShelf.xsitb” File in your User Folder, SI load the orginal Main Shelf from Factory Folder.
