I’m trying to use the Valve Source Add-on with XSI 7.0 64-bit and I’m having some problems.

The add-on only installs half of the “ValveSource” menu and The Import and Export SMD options aren’t there. This is kind of important since that’s how you transfer 3D content from XSI to the Source engine.

When I install the add-on I get an error at the bottom that says:

error.jpg

If I navigate to this folder the WeightImport.dll is there (but is apparently being ignored).

Then if I select “ValveSource” on the menu I only get some of the options (and the most important ones aren’t there)

valvesource.jpg

and I also get this error message at the bottom of the screen:

error2.jpg

The ValveSourceTools JScript File appears to be in that location.

Does anyone know what is going on here or possibly have a solution? I have personally witnessed the add-on work with XSI 7.0 so I am really confused as to why it isn’t working for me. I’m not really that great at solving these types of problems so I’m really hoping somebody out there can help me out.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

-Ben

Some of the ValveSource addon are 32-bit compiled DLLs. 32-bit DLLs cannot be used with 64-bit Softimage/XSI/ModTool. You will have to install the 32-bit version of XSI.

Great, thanks for the info Stephen!

I am running Vista 64-bit, would I still be able to run XSI 7 32-bit version on that OS?

I think that it would work but now I’m wondering how I go about getting the 32-bit version of XSI 7. Can I trade in my XSI 64-bit version? Would the license work for both the 64 and 32 bit versions? Where would I be able to download the 32-bit XSI 7 now that XSI 7.5 has been released?

Also, would it make sense that Mod Tool 7 wouldn’t work on 64-bit Vista because it is 32-bit? The Mod Tool crashes as soon as I try to start it up.

Thanks a lot for your help Stephen, I really do appreciate it!

You can run 32-bit XSI on a 64-bit system.
Your XSI license will work with both 32-bit XSI and 64-bit XSI.

The ModTool crash is probably something else. It should work on 64-bit Vista.

If you need to download the 32-bit version of XSI 7, send me a PM via this forum.
