I installed XSI (64-bit) just to see what it is like as I normally use Maya/3ds Max.

It appeared to install with no errors and when I click on the icon to run the software it opens up briefly and then crashes out to my windows desktop.

I have ran the “runonce.bat” file and it reported no errors and completed as expected but still no luck - it just will not run.

I am able to run Maya and Max (and other non Autodesk 3D packages) with no problems whatsoever - why is XSI causing so many problems?

At the end of the day, I only wanted to have a look at the software to see if it was worth looking at from a Company perspective.

Thanks in advance for any assistance with this.

Later…

This seems strange for a fresh install - I have Soft running along with Maya here without problems
(When I have both open the log from the Soft render appears in the Maya window^^).
You might want to try and delete your user folder aswell, but that is mostly for fixing problems with plugins or messed up settings.

Have tried everything including deleting the User Folder but still no further forward! Trying a fresh D/L from Autodesk now to see if it was a corrupt file but I really don’t think so.

It really annoys me when things like this happen for no good reason…

Thanks for your response at any rate.

This kind of startup crash could be a display driver issue.
Here’s a quick test that will show whether it is indeed a display driver issue.

It could also be a conflict with some other software, such as Digital Persona.

Stephen

Much obliged for the suggestions.

I have downloaded the 1Gb file from Autodesk four times now and every time the file is corrupt...so now I can’t even get the damn thing installed. Yet I have D/L other Autodesk Trials and they work just fine.

Ah the marvellous world of Computer Software...!!!

Again thanks.

Have updated and checked everything on my PC and neither the 32 or 64 bit versions will install and run yet Maya and Max and Mudbox all work with little or no issues…

I really wanted to get a good look at XSI as it might have fitted in with work pipelines.

Obviously not to be. Maybe the 2012 versions will work!!

If the installation is failing, then the install logs in your TEMP folder may show why.

Still the same problem with with XSI 2012.

Installed and run as Administrator

I have tried runonce.bat to no avail!

I have edited the default.xsily file and it still will not start.

Disabled AV/Firewall and all other unnecessary progs.

And I have run the xsibatch test- all I get is:

======================================================
Autodesk Softimage 10.0.422.0
=======================================================

I know that it must be something on my PC but I just cannot locate it at all.

I know that I don’t need XSI since we use Maya/3ds Max but I really would like to see what it is like and this frustrates the hell out of me!!!

Again thanks in advance for any info especially from Stephen.

I know I mentioned it before, but you don’t have Digital Persona installed, do you?
That does conflict with Softimage.

I know I’ve had a few cases like this, but I think those were with older versions where there was a specific issue.

My next step would usually be to ask for a Process Monitor log.

Just google “Process Monitor download”.
Download and extract the files.
Run procmon.exe, start capturing events.
Try to start Softimage.
After Softimage fails to start, go back to Process Monitor and stop capturing events.
Save the PML file (it will be large).
zip it, and PM me for FTP login info so you can upload

I’ll review the log

Stephen…

IOnce again thanks for the reply.

We don’t have Digital Persona installed and I will get the ProcMon run ASAP and give you a shout when it is done.

Again many thanks...as I said before, I really like and use Maya (and 3ds Max) but am still intrigued to have a look at XSI from an evaluation point of view. We have already looked at Houdini, Modo, Vue, Cinema 4D and a few others as well! Ultimately we can live without it but the fact that we cannot get it to install makes me all the more determined!

I’m also having this same problem. (Soft 2011 x64 on Windows 7 64)

The first attempt to run just ended with the Windows ‘program stopped working’ box popping up. Subsequent attempts throw up a Soft, ‘improper exit detected’ box before bringing up the stopped working warning.

I have tried the graphics driver test with no better results.

Thanks,
Justin Hall
