| constrain object to point
|
|
|
hi
i’d like to constrain an object to a single/specific point in a point cloud. hmmm. thought that one would be easy. but no. i just don’t get the position out of a single point ID to let the object have this position data (and maybe the orientation...)
does someone have a little tip on that…

I’ll try to post a tree later, if you don’t understand my terrible explanation above....

thank you
i’m trying to reconstruct your idea, but have not yet succeeded. yes, maybe a tree would help.

Something like this would work.

thank you very much! the idea behind is clear now and it works great!
I’m still confused about those per point or per cloud/object attributes sometimes. but this is another topic…
thanks

I’m sorry, strange things happening…
i first build the tree with full names. but you used a much more handy system, packing all into a compound and distributing the names needed…
as soon as i do so it doesn’t work anymore… but there are no scary red colors in the tree. it should work though..?

That’s weird...I seems to be working here ok. You definitely have kinematics enabled?

dubcut,
Here’s a completely different strategy for constraining an object to a point on the point cloud:
If you tag the point you want and then make a cluster with center - you can constrain it with -> object to cluster.
If you then plot -> write a geometry cache - you might be able to do what you want with that…

Hey Phil,
the only problem with that method is that you don’t get any orientation from the cluster.

Ciaran,
Yes, what i’ve done is constrained a null and then made my object a child of that null, then key framed the rest…
heh.. i cheated!
