Hello. I get such error during boolean:
“Boolean engine did not cope...”

What the trouble there could be? The geometry is quads, so I don’t think, that there are geomtry issues.

WOW you read my mind! (If I’m hijacking your thread let me know and I’ll move to a new one.) I was just about to post this:

For the most part I really like modeling in SI but one area that drives me crazy is the Booleans.
I don’t rely heavily on them but they do serve a purpose and used at the right time and under the right circumstances they are pretty damn powerful.
I find that in SI Boolean operations fail for me most of the time even in what seem to me to be fairly straight forward situations.
I am using them correctly as far as the SI documentation goes and I have tried experimenting a bit to see if I can get them to work under a wider set of circumstances but no joy.
When an old copy of LW has no trouble creating a Boolean that SI wont even try I gotta think I’m missing something.
So finally the question is does anyone use them on a regular bases in SI and if you do, is there a method to your madness? Of course the madness I want to hear about is how you get them to work in SI when first SI states they wont.

Thanks!
Peter

this is what I’ve done so far:

1. Imported SMD model of Gman and removed the head. Saved this as a scene1.
2. Created a new scene and imported the Model5. Selected the face, got rid of the body and deleted all the transform groups (since these created distortions when importing the head model into scene1.
3. I imported the head of model5 into scene1 and alligned it with the body of Gman.

If you’re looking to combine the body and head, it’s not Booleans you’re after. Select the body and the head and go to: Create--PolyMesh--Merge

Be sure to check the buttons to Merge the UVs/Materials, and possibly the one for envelope weights* (this may not work out too well if you’re importing the SMDs. Source usually splits that information into other formats when compiling to a .mdl, so you got the smds by decompiling you might have to manually re-envelope the merged mesh into a new version of the Valve Biped).
