Is there a way to extrude a group of polygons along the local axis like in Max?
I’ve tried duplicating faces and then scaling in local mode but that doesn’t do do job if the object is in some random position and has frozen transforms.
Any ideas?

Thanks

For what you’re doing (selecting a ring of polygons around the object), try Ctrl+D and then apply a Push op.

Otherwise, Ctrl+D and extrude, with the Transform Components Independently in Local Mode preference enabled.

Since I started using XSI at v.4.0, extrusion along axis remained unchanged. Coming from Max I had the same problem when in need to extrude a loop of polys along their normals and keeping them merged. It’s unfortunate that such a simple modeling feature is still lacking. Having to add a deform op and then delete the unwanted cluster is cumbersome and unproductive.

Agree.
Actually I miss a bunch of stuff from Max when it comes to modeling.

Any ides on how to do the same operation only on open edges?
Push works with edges but not when they are open?

Try scaling with COG on.
